More Powerful yet More Refined, 2015 VW Jetta Sedan Offers Buyers Even More Value
By Philly Murtha,
The 2015 Jetta received a freshening with new front- and rear-end treatments, giving the popular 4-door VW sedan a more sophisticated stance with cues from the larger 2015 VW Passat. Volkswagen's best-selling car, last redesigned in 2011, also receives new safety and technology features for 2015, and has five engine options for fuel-conscious and performance-minded consumers.
In addition to a standard, 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 115 horsepower, the 2015 Jetta is available with a 1.8-liter turbo powertrain that puts out 170 horsepower and 200 lb.-ft. of torque. A 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, which produces 250 horsepower, is offered in the performance GLI edition.
Based on Volkswagen's estimates, the 2015 Jetta 1.8T turbocharged model is expected to get a minimum of 25 mpg in the city and a maximum of 37 mpg on the highway, which is one more mile than last year due to revised aerodynamic enhancements, including active grille shutters.
VW offers a spunkier powertrain in its 2015 Jetta TDI Clean Diesel that makes 150 horsepower and 236 lb.-ft. of torque. It is paired with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. Active grille shutters can boost EPA fuel-economy estimates to 31 mpg in the city and 46 mpg on the highway.
A Jetta Hybrid, based on the SEL Premium trim level, is more efficient than VW's TDI Clean Diesel variant. The EPA estimates it will average 42 mpg in the city and 48 mpg on the highway. The Hybrid is powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine and an electric motor mated with a 7-speed automatic transmission.
The 2015 Jetta features expanded safety technologies that include new blind-spot and forward-collision warning systems, in addition to park-assist sensors and a rear cross-traffic alert system. Adaptive front lighting is also available along with swiveling headlights that move in the direction of turns to help illuminate corners.
Volkswagen's Car-Net smartphone connectivity includes the capability to find the car's last parked location and provides a manual emergency call feature if immediate assistance is required. Families with teen drivers may appreciate the speed alert features of Car-Net. There is also an automatic crash-notification service for fast emergency service.
Interior updates to the 2015 Jetta provide a higher quality feel, according to VW. New seat fabrics are available and the automaker updates the cabin with ambient lighting and upgraded gauges trimmed in chrome and piano black accents on the console. Both the cabin and trunk are roomier than the 2014 Jetta.
The 2015 VW Jetta comes standard with cloth upholstery. Manmade leather is an option, and consumers can order front sports seats, heated front seats, and a power-adjustable driver's seat on the latest of Volkswagen's most popular car models. All 2015 Jettas feature a fold-down rear seat.
The 2015 VW Jetta S also features heated mirrors, cruise control, and Bluetooth music streaming and a 4-speaker stereo system. Optional features include push-button ignition, rearview camera, touch-screen infotainment system, Fender premium audio system, iPod adapter, sunroof, and a navigation system.
