Mini to Offer Cooper 4-Door Hardtop

Mini to Offer Cooper 4-Door Hardtop

By Jeff Youngs,
Mini has expanded its model offerings with the addition of a 4-door version of the Mini Cooper Hardtop. This new model will feature a 2.9-in. longer wheelbase and a 6.3-in. longer body than the 2-door Mini Hardtop Cooper, and offers seating for 3 in the rear. Interior width will be 1.8 in. more than the 2-door version, and headroom will increase by half an inch.

The 4-door Mini Hardtop will be offered with either a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine with a peak output of 134 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque (170 lb.-ft. with overboost) or a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 189 horsepower and 207 lb.-ft. of torque (220 lb.-ft. with overboost), as well as a choice of a new 6-speed manual and 6-speed Steptronic transmission. The 4-door model continues Mini's wide track and low, identifiable profile.

The Mini Hardtop 4-door will offer several options not generally available in its competitive category. These include LED headlights, turning light, and fog lamps, as well as adaptive light distribution. The new model will be available in three solid and nine metallic colors; the roof and exterior mirror caps may be finished in white or black at no extra charge. White or black hood stripes and a chrome line are additional options; so are rails for roof rack mounting. Seats are available in leatherette (standard) or combination cloth/leather or all leather (optional). Sport seats are standard on the S trim level, optional on the base model.

The Mini 4-door Hardtop offers a choice of three driving modes: normal Mid mode; the more relaxed, fuel-efficient Green mode; and the more responsive, fast-shifting Sport mode. As an option, the Mini Hardtop 4-door can be fitted with Dynamic Damper Control, allowing for more comfort-oriented or more sporty ride and handling characteristics.

Safety options include the Mini Head-Up-Display and the Driving Assistant. The latter feature includes camera-based cruise control and distance control function that automatically maintains a distance from the vehicle ahead, as well as a collision and pedestrian warning system with initial brake function.
