Mercedes Unveils Potent 2019 C-Class Coupe and Cabriolet in Advance of New York Auto Show

By Philly Murtha, March 21, 2018
Mercedes-Benz previews refreshed 2019 C-Class Coupe and Cabriolet plus AMG performance variants, before their debut at the New York International Auto Show next week. The reveal comes weeks after Mercedes’ revised 2019 C-Class sedan debuted in Geneva. Shapely lines, a digital cockpit, more muscular engines and advanced safety systems, new colors (Mojave Silver Metallic and Graphite Gray) plus a choice of interior treatments, enhance the newest C-Class 2-door sporty variants that reach U.S. showrooms later this year.

Redesigned in 2015 and 2016, the 2019 C-Class variants add most of the same features standard or available on the 2019 C-Class compact premium sedan. On the outside, variants receive minor design changes to bumpers and add standard LED lighting systems. Power for the C300 and C300 4Matic (AWD) variants is upped by 14 horses with the 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbo engine that now produces 255 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque. Engines are matched with a 9-speed automatic.

In addition to C300 variants, performance-geared 2019 Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic (all-wheel drive) Coupe and Cabrio also receive design tweaks, including redone black mesh grille, larger air intakes, adjusted rear diffuser with four round exhaust tips. Optional AMG Night and Performance packages offer a more dramatic look. The C 43 4Matic (AWD) variants boast AMG-enhanced 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 that adds a 23-horsepower bump to generate 385 horsepower and 384 lb.-ft. of torque. These mighty variants throttle 0-60 mph in 4.5-4.6 seconds, paired with the 9-speed automatic. Top speed for all variants is limited to 130 mph.

Updates in technology for convenience and nearly a dozen advanced safety features have been borrowed from Mercedes’ flagship S-Class. A standard 10.25-in. display infotainment system with smartphone interconnectivity is new. Available navigation has been upgraded to provide real-time traffic and weather. A 12.3-in. digital instrument cluster with three display themes is optional. Standard on variants is a multi-function steering wheel with touch controls for operating audio/phone/safety systems. All new driver-assistance systems included or available in driver assistance packages can adjust to semi-autonomous driving in some situations with improved camera, and radar scanning systems.
