Mercedes Premieres Super-Lux Maybach Vision Crossover in China

By Philly Murtha, April 24, 2018
Mercedes-Benz this week premiered an elegant, audacious Mercedes-Maybach SUV concept tailored for the ultra-wealthy at “Auto China 2018” in Beijing, aka the 2018 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept SUV melds crossover and high-end sedan with what Mercedes calls “a philosophy of Sensual Purity.”

Mercedes-Maybach’s Vision Ultimate Luxury concept, which epitomizes a limo for China’s elite, combines opulent comfort with SUV raised seating and an athletic sedan look in an electric vehicle with four synchronous motors and all-wheel drive. Power output reaches 750 horsepower with a flat underfloor battery that has a capacity of 80 kWh and offers a driving range of more than 200 miles, according to the automaker. The Vision’s top speed is a limited 155 mph, Mercedes says. Fast-charging can be accomplished in just 5 minutes to offer enough power to drive an additional 60 miles, according to Mercedes. Charging can be handled with a cable at public charging stations.

On the outside, the Vision concept balances its signature Maybach red metallic multi-coat paint finish with curving, elegant lines and an expressive, vertical bar chrome grille that first appeared on the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 coupe concept (shown at Pebble Beach, CA, in 2016). Low-profile front and rear three-part lighting systems and large air intakes plus well-placed chrome trim create a sporty SUV and sedan dynamic. The concept, with longer wheelbase, rides on 24-in. wheels with the blade design of engine turbines. Aluminum running boards integrated into the lower door areas are illuminated with the Maybach logo. Flush door handles extend electronically, and the Vision is graced by a full-length split sunroof.

Modeled on Mercedes’ flagship S-Class, the Vision’s interior is designed to appeal to passengers. The cockpit dashboard is conventional with two 12.3-in. screen displays. Cabin treatment features opulent white quilted Nappa leather seating for four with rose gold stitching. Interior accents include “Magic Wood” ebony used in Chinese furniture design to create a long center console with a tea set including heated tray, teapot, and cups. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach concept’s programmable infotainment system features carryovers from the S-Class, including massage, fragrance, mood music, and lighting assistance.
