Mercedes-AMG Unwraps 2019 C63 Powerful V-8 Variants in New York

By Philly Murtha, March 28, 2018
This week, Mercedes-AMG, unveiled its muscular 2019 C63 and C63 S sedans, coupes and cabriolets at the 2018 New York International Auto Show. All C-Class compact premium mighty variants are refreshed and powered by potent 4.0-liter, twin turbo V-8s that produce 469 or 503 horsepower (C 63 S sedan), matched with AMG’s Speedshift 9-speed automatic. These six thoroughbred sports variants will reach showrooms in early 2019.

Exterior treatments for the 2019 C63 and C63 S feature AMG-specific vertical louver and high-gloss radiator trim that emphasizes brawn along with sporty side skirts and new AMG wheels. A raked windshield, front bumpers featuring A-wing design are new along with rear body-color spoiler and redone twin tailpipes. Optional aerodynamic groups add aggressive front splitter, spoiler, bigger rear diffuser plus gloss black accents.

Driving dynamics for the 2019 C63 and C63 S variants also are modified with standard AMG ride control suspension that features adaptive damping and electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential. For sports car enthusiasts, there are up to six drive modes ranging from “Slippery” to “Race” and “Individual” depending on driving conditions. With the fierce twin turbo V-8, fastest acceleration is an estimated 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds for the Coupe and a slower 4.1 seconds for the C63 Cabriolet.

The variants’ cabin can be futuristic with optional digital cockpit information on a 12.3-in. screen with three selectable AMG displays. A flat-bottom AMG steering wheel with gearshift paddles can operate all functions with swipe motion touch controls or through voice activated commands. Also new: a host of AMG-programmed features called up on a new menu—including engine warm-up, drive system setup, engine data, G-force display, race time with manual stop watch and a data bank of famous European track times.

Additionally, the new performance variants borrow S-Class elements inside, including black micro-fiber seats and colored Nappa leathers with trim in woods, carbon fiber and AMG aluminum and Silver fiberglass. AMG performance sporty heated/cooled seats are also available in all upholsteries. For the Cabriolet variant, even a neck-level heating system comes standard.
