Mercedes-AMG Debuts V-8 Power GLC63 SUV, GLC63 Coupe

Mercedes-Benz and its AMG performance division showcase turbo V-8 power in high-end performance variants of its GLC in New York this week. Three models are featured with enhanced power from AMG’s hand-built, 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 engine. Vehicles on display include the 2018 GLC63 compact premium SUV, 2018 GLC63 Coupe, and more powerful 2018 GLC63 S Coupe. Each boasts a higher level of performance and these entries will begin reaching U.S. showrooms early next year.

Sporty and dynamic, the GLC63 SUV has a powertrain that generates 469 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. of torque. Power for the GLC63 Coupe is the same, but the even more exotic GLC63 S Coupe pumps out 503 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft. of torque to slip from 0-60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, according to Mercedes. All three GLC variants make the dash in less than 4 seconds and will use AMG’s new 9-speed automatic transmission.

Since the GLC63 and Coupe variants are all about performance, a rear-axle limited-slip differential and a high-performance braking system also are standard.

All of the new 2018 GLC63 variants feature the AMG Panamericana grille that was formerly reserved for AMG GT sports cars. Additionally, all three offer spacious interiors for passengers and luggage, along with a full array of driver safety systems. Interiors are premium with ergonomic driver and passenger seats finished in MB-Tex man-made leather combined with microfiber carried over into the instrument panel trim.

The higher-end GLC63 S Coupe adds contrast topstitching to the upholstery with aluminum trim. A touchpad is flanked by ride-control mode switches in all versions. More extensive equipment is featured on the GLC63 S variant, including an AMG performance leather-wrapped steering wheel and leather dashboard appointments with red highlights. Other AMG performance and appearance packages and wheels will be available for even more personalization.
