By Philly Murtha, February 08, 2018
Mazda will present its latest 2018 Mazda MX-5 RF, a retractable fastback, at the Chicago Auto Show this week. It’s noteworthy that the original iconic Miata roadster first debuted at the same show in 1989. Mazda’s 2018 MX-5 RF with power hardtop, added a year ago, will begin reaching dealer showrooms this month with a starting sticker of $31,910.The soft-top 2018 Mazda MX-5 Sport manual began reaching dealers in December 2017, with a starting MSRP of $25,295.

Mazda says it is adding upgrades to its MX-5 Miata three-trim (Sport, Club, and Grand Touring) lineup that include standard keyless entry and new standard heated cloth sport seats in Club models. Mazda also revealed new paint colors: Eternal Blue Mica, Snowflake White Pearl Mica and Soul Red Crystal to replace former metallic colors. In addition, auburn Nappa leather is an upholstery option this year and heated leather-trimmed seats are new. An optional performance Brembo/BBS sport package also bows, featuring forged BBS wheels, body sill extensions, a rear bumper skirt and heated black leather-trim seats.

The 2018 Mazda MX-5 RF Club on display can be equipped with a 6-speed manual with limited-slip rear differential, a front brace and Bilstein suspension. If the new Brembo/BBS package is ordered, add an extra $3,770 to the RF Club’s base suggested sticker price. This retractable hardtop variant rides on 17-in dark alloy wheels and features piano black mirror caps, front air dam and rear spoiler extensions. Inside there is red seat stitching.

Both MX-5 Club and MX-5 Grand Touring trim levels are equipped with standard LED lighting systems, Mazda Connect infotainment systems with 7-in. display screen, USB ports, plus smartphone connectivity and charging. A Bose premium 9-speaker sound system, limited subscription SiriusXM satellite radio are also included. Advanced safety systems such as blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert plus a leather steering wheel and shift knob are standard.

Mazda’s MX-5 Grand Touring trim variants also features body-color mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated leather seats, navigation, adaptive headlights and lane departure warning.
