Maserati Debuts Its First-Ever SUV Model, the 2017 Levante, at the Geneva Motor Show

By Philly Murtha, March 02, 2016
The Geneva Motor Show was a fitting first showcase for Italian exotic car brand Maserati’s first-ever SUV model, which it has dubbed Levante. The bold, stylish, swept-back new SUV model was described by a company official as “a free spirit that stimulates change.” The Levante, which is named after a warm Mediterranean breeze, will compete with other premium SUVs from Porsche, Jaguar, and Bentley, among others. The new Maserati SUV has an MSRP equal to USD $76,000 and goes on sale in Europe in May and will reach the United States in September.

Maserati powers its Levante S with a twin-turbo V-6 engine mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system that generates 460 horsepower. A less-powerful V-6 and a turbodiesel will be available in some markets. Maserati officials say the Levante S will reach 0-60 mph in just 5.2 seconds with a top speed of 264 km/h (164 mph). Off-road ready, the Levante allows the driver to select five levels of ground clearance.

The swept-back, stylish Levante appears more carlike and is based on the same architecture as the Quattroporte and Ghibli with trademark port-hole air vents. A panoramic electric sunroof is standard. The cabin features high-end materials and optional premium leather and unique silk fabric treatments. A Touch Control system with an 8.4-in. display is standard in the cockpit. A range of advanced driver-assistance systems and luxury and sport packages also are available for the new Levante.
