Latest Scion Series Release Models Bow at New York Auto Show

By Jeff Youngs, May 02, 2014
For a decade, Scion has launched limited-production, special-edition versions of its various models under the Series Release name, and at the 2014 New York International Auto Show the company debuted two new Series Release examples for fans of the brand to celebrate.

The first is the 2014 Scion xB Series Release 10.0 model, which is equipped with a standard conductive wireless charging pad. The company plans to produce 1,500 units of this special-edition xB, which will cost just over $21,000 when it goes on sale in the summer.

Scion is going for a high-tech look with the xB Series Release 10.0, dipping it in pearl white Electric Quartz paint with green highlights and adding green highlights to the cabin. A reversing camera and an automatic transmission are standard, along with illuminated interior and exterior projections, Piano Black cabin trim, illuminated cup holders and doorsill plates, and special floor mats. Scion also installs plastic wheel covers in Tungsten Gray for this variant.

The second Series Release model is based on the Scion FR-S sports car. The yellow paint is named Yuzu, and the FR-S Series Release 1.0 features a unique aerodynamic body kit, HID headlights, LED running lights, and several Toyota Racing Development (TRD) upgrades. They include a TRD Quad Tip exhaust system, TRD lowering springs, TRD steering wheel, and a TRD shift knob.

Available with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission with Dynamic Rev Management, the 2014 Scion FR-S Series Release 1.0 includes keyless passive entry with push-button starting and a dual-zone automatic climate control system. Scion will build 1,500 units and sell them for a little more than $30,000 starting in August 2014.
