A splash of rugged expensive fun and luxury will be available next spring when Land Rover launches its 2017 Range Rover Evoque Convertible. The new 4-passenger convertible small premium SUV, with a starting MSRP of $50,475, joins Land Rover’s six-model lineup in dealer showrooms mid-2016.

Land Rover, the British luxury SUV brand, this week displayed the new soft-top Evoque in London at the University of the Arts (UAL) in Granary Square, Kings Cross. U.S. auto shoppers will be able to see the new model later this month, after it is revealed at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Evoque Convertible is powered by a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated with a 9-speed automatic transmission that produces 240 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft. of torque. It has a soft top that is insulated and can be lowered in 18 seconds and rise back up in 21 seconds, according to Land Rover. Rollover protection is built into the vehicle with aluminum bars incorporated into the roof design in case the small SUV ever overturns. A palette of 13 exterior colors is offered from Fuji White to Phoenix Orange. The base level Evoque Convertible is equipped with 18-in., 7-spoke silver finish wheels.

The brand’s InControl TouchPro infotainment system with 10.2-in. display is featured along with smartphone connectivity and ports. A navigation system is also optional. The new convertible is offered in two trim levels: SE Dynamic, which lists from $50,475, and an upscale HSE Dynamic version with standard mood lighting, LED headlights, fog lights, navigation, and black hood vents, which starts at $57,275. Cold Climate and Tech equipment packages are optional on the SE trim level.

Through October of this year, Land Rover has delivered 12,861 Range Rover Evoque SUVs in the U.S., up 28.9% from 9,977 unit sales in the same period a year ago. Year-to-date Land Rover U.S. sales were up 31.9% from a year ago, according to data collected by J.D. Power and auto forecasting partner LMC Automotive.
