Jeep Fortifies 2017 Wrangler Rubicon with Recon Package

By Philly Murtha, February 06, 2017
Jeep brand this week introduces a tougher, more striking 2017 Wrangler Rubicon Recon variant. Built with more brawn than prior editions, the new off-road compact SUV is outfitted with cosmetic touches—including red accents—and rides on new 17-in. wheels. It will reach dealer showrooms later this month and has a suggested sticker price of $39,145 for a 2-door version and $42,945 for the 4-door Wrangler Unlimited.

The Jeep Wrangler has always been fit to tackle streams and traverse trails in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains as the Rubicon name suggests, and the automaker states that the new Rubicon Recon is no exception. It’s built with more protection for off-roading, including a stronger front axle, heavy-duty cast front and rear differential covers, and sturdier rock rails to accommodate larger tires.

Equipped with a part-time 4-wheel-drive system and electronic-locking front and rear axles, the Rubicon Recon is constructed with an improved crawl ratio that makes climbing rocks easier and comes with a standard 6-speed manual or an available 5-speed automatic transmission. Seven colors are offered, including black, Gobi, Rhino, and Granite Crystal for personalization.

The 2017 Wrangler Rubicon Recon rides on 17-in. low-gloss granite crystal-painted aluminum wheels and comes with special off-road tires. Optional body-color flares are available, and the SUV variant comes with a dual-vented dome hood and “Rubicon” decals. Other new features include a half-inch lift and low-gloss black grille with special inserts and headlight rings. Black off-road bumpers and Jeep badges gives it a unique look.

Interior amenities include a standard 8-speaker audio system, heated black leather seats with “Rubicon” logos, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching. Red accents are carried out in other cockpit accessories, including seat belts. A premium soft top is standard, while a body-color hard top is optional. The dashboard gauge cluster includes readouts for oil pressure, fluids, and coolant temperature as well as pressure readings for each tire. All-weather floor mats plus Jeep’s Connectivity and Power Convenience groups are standard as are satellite radio, remote start, and auto climate control.
