Jeep Brand Debuts Two Special-Edition SUV Packages at L.A. Auto Show

By Philly Murtha, November 12, 2015

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ Jeep brand this week announced that it will debut two Special Edition packages for two of its best-selling SUV models at next week’s Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Night—with stealth black accents—and the 2016 Jeep Wrangler Backcountry, which is available in Xtreme Purple and provides extra off-road capability for winter. The Grand Cherokee SRT Night will go on sale in the first quarter of 2016, while the Wrangler Backcountry reaches dealer showrooms later this month.

The 2016 Grand Cherokee SRT Night Special Edition SUV is powered by a 6.4-liter V-8 that produces 475 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque and has a top speed of 160 mph, according to Jeep. On the outside, the SRT Night Special Edition features a gloss black roof, rear spoiler, front grille surrounds, pillars, and side window surrounds. Front applique, hood, and rear liftgate badging are Satin Black to match 5-spoke, 20-in wheels.

Black leather with silver accent stitching and dark chrome trim are featured in the cabin. The exterior paint is not black, however. The Grand Cherokee SRT Night is available in Velvet Red, Billet Silver, and Granite Crystal. Additional features to further personalize the Special Edition midsize SUV include a dual-pane sunroof, Harman Kardon upscale audio system, trailer tow, and dual-screen rear entertainment system. The SRT Night Special Edition package adds on a suggested $4,995 without extra features.

Already offroad rugged, the 2016 Jeep Wrangler Backcountry Special Edition compact SUV, which will arrive in dealer showrooms soon, is based on the Wrangler Sahara but adds off-road front and rear powder-coated bumpers, black 17-in. Rubicon wheels, and a black fuel-door cover. Rubicon rock rails are standard, and side steps are available at no additional charge.

As for looks, a black hardtop is standard but a body-color top is optional. The Wrangler Backcountry comes in five exterior colors: Hydro Blue, Black, Bright White, Granite Crystal, and Xtreme Purple. Backcountry badging is part of the package, along with Piano Black vent rings and door and grab handles. Inside, the Special Edition Jeep Wrangler features a vinyl-wrapped console lid, door armrests with Diesel Gray stitching, black leather seat bolsters with black sport mesh inserts, premium Alpine sound system, and all-weather slush mats. Bluetooth is standard for the Wrangler Backcountry package, which adds on a suggested $4,700.
