Jaguar to Debut 2017 F-Type SVR Sports Car in Geneva

By Philly Murtha, February 17, 2016
In early March, at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show (March 3-13), Jaguar will unveil its fastest, lightest, and slickest F-Type in recent history. Developed by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations group, the 2017 F-Type SVR can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and reach a claimed top speed of 200 mph. This “all-weather supercar,” as Jaguar refers to it, is offered as a coupe or convertible and can be ordered now, with delivery starting in the summer.

What makes this near-custom sports car so quick and qualified for speed is a supercharged, 5.0-liter V-8 engine that produces 575 horsepower and 515 lb.-ft. of torque when mated with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. Also, the supercar, which is 55 lbs. lighter than the F-Type R, features an enhanced aerodynamic package with a special front bumper with air vents and splitter, flat underfloor, and a carbon fiber rear wing among components to reduce lift and drag. Other features include a stiffer chassis with new dampers, anti-roll bars, and wider Pirelli P Zero tires on 20-in. forged wheels. Cap it off with four titanium and Inconel (nickel-chromium alloy) exhaust pipes for an edgy, throaty sound.

Inside the cabin are SVR jet black leather seats done in a quilt pattern. Sienna tan or red leather seats also are available. The instrument cluster is surrounded in suedecloth as is the center console, and an SVR steering wheel plus aluminum paddle shifters complete the racing feel and look. The InControl Touch Plus infotainment system with full connectivity is standard.

Other enhancements that are race-car worthy include electric power-assisted steering, torque vectoring, special dynamics and stability control systems, and all-wheel drive. Although the F-Type SVR comes equipped with large disc brakes, enthusiasts can select an optional carbon ceramic brake system; a carbon fiber roof panel and exterior accessories are among options.

The coupe’s suggested sticker price starts around $126,000, while the convertible’s MSRP begins at less than $130,000.
