Hyundai Expands Free Blue Link Services to New Car Buyers

By Jeff Youngs, May 20, 2013
Hyundai has implemented a previously announced expansion to its cloud-based Blue Link telematics suite of services. Effective May 16, 2013, all new Hyundai models equipped with Blue Link will offer a free 3-year subscription to Assurance Connected Care services. The service is fully transferrable to the next owner if the Hyundai is purchased as a used car within the 3-year subscription period.

"Hyundai introduced Assurance at a time when economic uncertainty was high and brands were cutting back," said John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America. "We chose to show our commitment to our customers even in the toughest of times as a way of saying 'we've got your back.' This commitment remains just as strong today as we take things to the next level with Assurance Connected Care."

Assurance Connected Care includes three important safety features. Automatic Collision Notification engages if the Hyundai's air bags deploy, putting the occupants of the vehicle in voice communication with a Blue Link response specialist. The specialist will contact emergency rescue personnel, dispatch them to the car's exact location, and stay on the line in communication with the vehicle's occupants until help arrives. The SOS button inside of the vehicle works in a similar fashion, except that the vehicle occupants make contact with the Blue Link response specialist without air bag deployment. Blue Link also includes a button that puts the driver or passengers into contact with Hyundai's roadside assistance response center.

In addition to these safety features, Blue Link Assurance Connected Care offers vehicle-related reports and alerts, including monthly vehicle health reports, maintenance alerts, vehicle diagnostics code alerts, and recall advisories. The system also allows Hyundai owners to schedule a dealer service visit right from the car.

For 2013, Hyundai offers Blue Link on the following models: Azera, Elantra GT, Genesis Coupe, Genesis Sedan, Santa Fe, Sonata, and Veloster.
