Hyundai’s New Lux Genesis Brand Unveils Flagship G90 Sedan
By Philly Murtha, December 09, 2015
Hyundai Motor Co. (Hyundai) today took the wraps off the Genesis G90, its first top-of-the-line large luxury sedan in the new premium Genesis brand lineup. The G90 (EQ900 in South Korea) replaces the former upscale Hyundai Equus, and after debuting in South Korea will go on sale in the United States during a global rollout as a 2017 model.
Larger and more sophisticated than the Equus, the new G90 features the new Genesis “Athletic Elegance” design elements that are “powerful and refined,” according to Hyundai, and include a new signature “Crest” grille crowned with the Genesis winged badge—all developed by the brand’s Prestige Design Division. The new premium flagship car, which has been compared to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, is offered in eight paint colors from Marble White and Onyx Black to Gold Scent and Neptune Blue with complementing interior color and material combinations.
Three engine options are available for the 2017 G90, including a powerful 5.0-liter V-8 that produces 419 horsepower that propels the car from 0-62 mph in just 5.7 seconds, Hyundai says. Two other choices are the basic 3.8-liter V-6 that produces 311 horsepower and a 3.3-liter turbocharged V-6 that generates 365 horsepower. All three engines are mated with an 8-speed transmission and a choice of rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). The latest technology also is featured in the flagship G90, including an array of safety systems, such as: blind-spot monitor; automatic emergency braking; driver-alertness sensors; and adaptive headlights.
