Honda Urban SUV Concept Previews New Crossover

By Jeff Youngs, January 23, 2013
With the introduction of the Honda Urban SUV Concept at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the company announces that it plans to slot a new compact crossover underneath the current CR-V. The new model, which will be built in Mexico starting in calendar year 2014, is likely to compete against the Fiat 500L, Kia Soul, Nissan Juke, Mini Cooper Countryman, and Subaru XV Crosstrek when it goes on sale.

For now, Honda is offering few details about the new crossover SUV, which is expected to look very similar to the Urban SUV Concept that debuted in Detroit. Of the few details Honda provided, the production version of this concept vehicle will be based on the next-generation Honda Fit platform, and will be equipped with a fuel-efficient "Earth Dreams" powertrain, offer a standard rear Magic Seat design similar to the Fit, and will be available with a next-generation telematics system.
