GMC Unveils First Off-Road Sub-brand 2019 Sierra AT4 Pickup

By Philly Murtha, March 27, 2018
GMC, General Motors’ distinct truck brand, has revealed details about the 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 large pickup—its first entry in a new off-road-variant lineup. The 2019 Sierra AT4 debuts at the New York International Auto Show and is set apart by bolder design, factory off-road modifications, more technology, and premium content. It reaches dealer showrooms this fall.

GMC’s redesigned off-road-capable 2019 Sierra large pickup is differentiated by dark exterior paint with body-colored front, rear bumpers, and grille surround. The rugged texture grille itself is finished in black chrome. Additional touches include bold LED lighting, a black chrome fender, and black gloss window trim, mirror caps, and skid plate. Red vertical tow hooks and AT4 badging complete the look.

Inside, the new Sierra AT4 also emphasizes dramatic dark tint and textured aluminum trim on the steering wheel, center stack, and sill plates. Jet Black and a Kalahari desert color scheme are used in stitching on the leather-appointed seats. AT4 badging is also embroidered on the head rests and all-weather floor mats.

Power for the 2019 Sierra AT4 comes from a standard 5.3-liter V-8 engine, or one of two optional engines: a 6.2-liter V-8 or Duramax 3.0-liter inline-6 turbodiesel, both paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The new off-road variant rides on standard dark-tint 18-in. wheels with all-terrain tires or can be ordered with optional 20-in. wheels.

Off-road qualifications for the 4-wheel-drive truck with 2-speed transfer case include a 2-in. suspension lift for ground clearance and tuned off-road Rancho monotube shocks, a locking rear differential for traction on slippery terrain, and hill-descent control for steep grades without constant braking. A traction-select system with preset modes also comes standard on the new Sierra AT4.

Extra features available on the 2019 Sierra AT4 include a color head-up display, surround-vision system, and digital rear camera mirror plus a full complement of advanced driver-assistance and safety systems. GMC’s durable carbon-fiber cargo box that’s offered on the 2019 Sierra Denali and SLT trims is optional. However, GMC’s MultiPro tailgate system with six functions and positions for easier loading is standard equipment.
