Ford Offers New Performance Pack Level 2 for 2018 Mustang GT
Ford engineers teamed up to create a Performance Pack Level 2 for the 2018 Ford Mustang GT midsize sporty car that bridges two other Mustang GT variant packages. The Performance Pack Level 2 is a step up from Performance Pack Level 1 with extras to create tighter handling and a superior road-hugging ride, Ford says. The package, which may have a suggested price of about $6,500, can be ordered as an extra now for the 2018 Mustang GT with manual transmission that will reach showrooms next spring.
The Performance Pack Level 2 is slotted between the GT Performance Pack and the most powerful GT350 variant, according to Ford officials. The main components added include 10-spoke Dark Tarnish colored 19-in. wheels designed to improve ride, steering, and handling, along with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires that are 1.5 ins. wider than those offered in Performance Pack Level 1. Suspension and steering have been enhanced and stiffened in Performance Pack Level 2, and the chassis has been lowered and is enveloped by an aerodynamic front splitter and rear spoiler that are detailed in black. Also part of the Performance Pack Level 2 are available Recaro sport seats upholstered in leather or cloth.
Ford officials state that all features of Performance Pack Level 1 are included in the Performance Pack Level 2 option, including Brembo brakes with larger rotors, ABS tuning, adapted steering, stability control, and enhancements to the chassis. There’s also a larger radiator and a Torsen rear differential. The new Performance Pack Level 2 splitter is based on aerodynamics from the Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca to create more downforce and grip at higher speeds.
