Ford Fiesta Adds Power and Technology for 2014

By Jeff Youngs, November 27, 2012
The 2014 Ford Fiesta, the automaker's subcompact model, receives a mid-cycle update in the form of revised styling, new technology, a turbocharged 3-cylinder engine, and a performance-oriented Fiesta ST variant.

Exterior changes to the new Fiesta are most noticeable in front, where a new grille modeled after the one affixed to the redesigned 2013 Fusion's nose is plainly evident. New wheel design and paint color choices are offered for the 2014 Fiesta, as well as a slate of updated exterior graphics packages to further personalize the car.

Inside, upgrades are primarily limited to new technologies, including MyKey programmable safety features and a MyFord Touch infotainment system operated using voice commands or a touch screen mounted atop the dashboard's center stack of controls. A Sony premium sound system is new for 2014, providing HD Radio and satellite radio, while Ford's Sync smartphone technology continues, including 9-1-1 Assist and AppLink services.

The Fiesta's standard engine is a 120-horsepower, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder unit that receives minor updates in an effort to improve fuel economy, according to Ford. New for 2014 is a turbocharged, 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine dubbed "EcoBoost." The new EcoBoost engine gets more than 40 mpg on the highway while delivering 123 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of torque across a broader rev range than the current engine.

The updated 2014 Ford Fiesta goes on sale next year.
