Ford Builds Faster, Track-Ready 2019 Mustang Shelby GT350

By Philly Murtha, June 12, 2018
This week, Ford showed off its upgraded 2019 Mustang Shelby GT350 midsize sporty car that will reach showrooms early next year. Even Cobra sports car design legend Carroll Shelby would appreciate the track-ready performance enhancements that will deliver faster lap times, provide reduced drag, and improve agility on straightaways for a more exhilarating sport driving experience.

Ford’s 2019 Mustang Shelby GT350 is outfitted with an available new spoiler and Gurney flap to add downforce during fast laps. Ford also says the new Mustang pony car will be equipped with 19-in. aluminum wheels and custom Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 295/35 front and 305/35 rear tires made with a special tire compound and tread pattern to improve grip and aid acceleration.

Leveraging aerodynamic advances in the all-new Shelby GT500, Ford Performance Division engineers have added an optimized grille, retuned the chassis, and modified the Brembo brakes for better road hugging. The active suspension has been adjusted with recalibrated springs and revised damping, and the electric power-assist steering and 3-mode electronic stability control settings have been retailored.

The 2019 Mustang Shelby GT350 looks nearly the same as the outgoing 2018 muscular beauty with available over-the-top bold white racing stripes. However, new colors for 2019 include: Velocity Blue and Ford Performance Blue.

The new Shelby GT350 still gets its oomph from a 5.2-liter flat V-8 that generates 526 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. of torque when partnered with a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission.

Fresh sporting cues are featured inside and include available carbon fiber interior plus door panel inserts in dark slate suede with stitching. Recaro race seats are standard with firm side bolsters and open pass-through for safety harnesses.

For listening pleasure, there’s an optional audiophile Harman 12-speaker sound system with standard 8-in. Sync 3 touch screen.

The iconic Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 was first introduced as a 2016 model. Pricing for the 2019 model will be released later. Buyers will receive a complimentary performance driver training course with their purchase.
