Ford to Build Special-Edition 2015 Shelby Mustang GT350s and GT350Rs
By Philly Murtha, April 29, 2015
The name Shelby is synonymous with high performance to Ford Mustang enthusiasts. In honor of the Shelby GT350's 50th birthday, Ford will produce a limited run of 37 Shelby GT350R pony cars along with a build of just 100 Shelby GT350 Mustangs for 2015. These 2015 limited-edition cars will be built just before the 2016 model debuts.
The GT350R edition features a flat-plane crank, 5.2-liter V-8 engine that achieves more than 500 horsepower and is the most powerful naturally aspirated engine Ford has ever produced. In addition, this track-capable car is lighter, more powerful, and stiffer than previous versions, according to Ford. The special run of cars to be sold honors Carroll Shelby, legendary race car driver who developed the first road-racing-capable Shelby Mustangs in 1965.
In addition to the GT350R anniversary edition, 100 Shelby GT350s will be sold with a 2015 model-year designation before production switches over to the 2016 model. The Shelby GT350 features the same 500-plus-horsepower, naturally aspirated, 5.2-liter V-8 engine and new front end to improve its dynamics.
Half of the special-edition GT350s will be equipped with the Technology package, including magnetic ride control, navigation system, power-operated leather seats, and Sync 3, while the other half will be equipped with the Track package, featuring heavy-duty springs, advanced cooling systems for oil, engine, and transmission, and adjustable drive modes. Prices for the added packages are said to be $7,500 and $6,500, respectively, according to auto enthusiast magazine reports.
