Ford 2014 F-150 SVT Raptor "Seizes" a New Look and Color

By Jeff Youngs, April 09, 2013
Ford Motor Co. this week took the wraps off its 2014 F-150 SVT Raptor Special Edition large pickup truck, which will go on sale this fall. The special package pickup truck, which features what Ford considers luxury amenities and rugged, off-road equipment, debuted in 2009 as a 2010 model. For 2014, Ford has added a more exciting exclusive look for the truck, which is outfitted for serious off-roading. The name Raptor comes from the Latin word meaning "seize" or "take by force."

The 2014 SVT Raptor package offers exterior color, graphics, and interior styling that is strictly designated for the Raptor special-edition truck. Ruby Red Metallic exterior color and box-side graphics give this truck a unique look. Interior upgrades include what Ford terms Brick Red seat bolsters with black inserts and patterned cloth highlights. In addition to the Ruby Red Metallic exterior color, the 2014 SVT Raptor also comes in Tuxedo Black Metallic.

Ford's 2014 SVT Raptor is equipped with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that generates 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to an electronic 6-speed automatic transmission with tow/haul mode and SelectShift Automatic functionality. The 4WD system features electronic shift-on-the-fly capability for the transfer case.

Off-road capability is further enhanced with a front axle that features a Torsen differential with 4.10:1 gearing. The rear axle is also 4.10:1, with an electronic-locking differential.

Since the first SVT Raptor was introduced in 2009, Ford has also added mainstays for off-roaders that include all-terrain tires, internal triple-bypass FOX Racing Shox dampers, skid plates, and standard hill-descent control. Also, the Raptor is available as a 4-door SuperCrew model, as well as the 2-door SuperCab original.

In 2013, Ford incorporated special beadlock-capable wheels to help increase grip in low-traction conditions, along with high-intensity discharge headlamps for improved visibility. Sync with MyFord Touch was also made available for added connectivity. The 2014 Raptor also includes a grille-mounted camera to improve driver visibility when climbing over rocks or other obstacles.
