Ferrari and Volvo Announce Partnerships with Technology Firms

By Jeff Youngs, March 13, 2013
Underscoring the advancement of technology in automobiles and modern customer connectivity requirements, recently both Ferrari and Volvo have announced new partnerships associated with technology companies.

In the case of Ferrari, Apple senior vice president Eddy Cue joined the Italian automaker's board of directors last November. At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari displayed a new FF equipped with a Siri Eyes Free voice-command system and a rear-seat entertainment system comprised of dual integrated iPad Mini tablet computers.

Volvo is set to introduce its new Sensus Connected Touch technology on the automaker's lineup of 2014 models and has partnered with digital music service Spotify for voice-activated or touch-screen-controlled access to streaming radio or personal playlists, right from the vehicle's dashboard or via a paired smartphone. Volvo says that with this new partnership, drivers will be able to play any Spotify track they want simply by saying the song's name aloud.
