Dodge Honors Muscle Car Heritage before Detroit's Woodward Dream Cruise

By Philly Murtha, August 18, 2016
Dodge paraded two modern muscle cars—the 2017 Dodge Challenger T/A and the 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona—on Detroit’s famous Woodward Ave. before this weekend’s annual Woodward Dream Cruise classic car event. The Dream Cruise, which will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, often attracts 1 million enthusiasts according to media reports. The Dodge sport performance models provide a preview before they can be ordered this fall. The Charger Daytona can be ordered in September, followed by the Challenger T/A in October.

Both muscle car models can be powered by either a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 that makes 375 horsepower or a 6.4-liter “392” Hemi that generates 485 horsepower. Each car will be outfitted with Dodge’s SRT (Street and Racing Technology) Hellcat and R/T Scat pack performance components, including special “Air Catcher” headlights with logos, a cold-air intake hood system, and electronically controlled exhausts. The Challenger T/A midsize sporty car and Charger Daytona large car will also feature a performance Brembo brake system.

The modern sports-oriented muscle cars will ride on forged-aluminum 20-in. wheels with performance Goodyear and Pirelli tires. Exterior graphics, hoods, and roof tops are painted in a satin black finish. Bolstered sporty seats, a performance steering wheel, and die-cast paddle shifters are also included. In addition, both muscle cars can be ordered in limited-production Green Go and a redone Yellow Jacket hue as well as a lineup of 11 exterior paint colors. The base-level Challenger T/A has a starting MSRP of $38,485 (including $1,095 destination and handling).

Dodge’s 2017 Charger Daytona receives the same upgrades as the Challenger T/A, including a Super Track pack with lowered suspension, Bilstein shocks, the performance brake linings, stability control, and Goodyear performance tires. It also features a satin black spoiler, hood graphic, and roof, along with the same 20-in. wheels as the Challenger T/A. The Daytona equipped with a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 that makes 375 horsepower has a beginning MSRP of $40,985 (including $1,095 destination and handling).
