Chevrolet Unveils 2018 Colorado ZR2 Midnight and Dusk Edition Pickups at SEMA Show

By Philly Murtha, October 19, 2017

To continue celebrating its 100th anniversary of building trucks, Chevrolet adds two new off-road variants to its 2018 Colorado midsize pickup lineup. The 2018 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Midnight Edition and ZR2 Dusk Edition will be showcased at this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas from Oct. 31 through Nov. 3. Special ZR2 off-road special treatment packages, priced at $3,425, will go on sale in November.

Chevrolet’s 2018 Colorado ZR2 Midnight Edition, painted all black with black bowtie badging, rides on 17-in. 5-spoke black wheels with matching spare. A black sport bar with off-road LED lighting and ZR2 logos provides more sport functionality.

Both ZR2 Editions are set apart by a more aggressive hood and grille plus bumpers adapted for better off-road ground clearance. Under the hood, the ZR2 is powered by a standard 3.6-liter V-6 engine matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission. A 2.8-liter, Duramax turbodiesel engine that generates 369 lb.-ft. of torque is optional. Chevrolet says smartphone connectivity and Wi-Fi are standard equipment and advanced safety systems, including forward-collision and lane-departure alerts, are available.

Offering desert and rock crawling capability, the ZR2 rides 2 ins. higher and is 3.5 ins. wider than the basic Colorado. Other features that will appeal to sport off-roaders include improved off-road suspension with cast iron control arms and new spool-valve technology shocks. The ZR2 also comes equipped with a front electronic locking differential, hill-descent control, and an aluminum skid plate to protect the radiator and oil pan during off-roading. An Autotrac transfer case and shield plus 4-wheel disc brakes and modified rear axle complete the sport truck package.

At the upcoming SEMA Show, Chevy will display a ZR2 Midnight Edition crew cab powered by the 3.6-liter V-6 that will include a bed-mounted spare tire carrier, performance-modified air intake, exhaust, and all-weather floor liners with ZR2 logos. The ZR2 Dusk Edition will be shown in Summit White and equipped with the optional turbodiesel powertrain.
