General Motors’ flagship Chevrolet brand adds a new RS turbocharged variant to its Traverse midsize SUV with extra fuel economy plus sporty styling modifications. The new RS variant will complete six trim levels in the 2018 Traverse lineup and likely will be shown at the Chicago Auto Show. The new Traverse RS also is equipped with extra driver-assistance technology and is available for a suggested price of $43,095, including destination fee.

More efficient performance is part of the RS package. The newest Traverse variant is equipped with a turbocharged, Ecotec 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 257 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque, matched with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The 2018 Traverse RS is a higher-end variant that features sporty touches including a black grille, black window trim, black roof rails, and black bowtie emblems. In addition, the sporty performance variant rides on larger 20-in. aluminum wheels in a Dark Android finish. New lighting systems feature HID lights and LED daytime running lamps. For aerodynamics and efficiency, the Traverse RS is equipped with upper and lower active aero shutters.

Inside, the Traverse RS features a MyLink radio with 8-in. color touch screen and navigation in addition to the driver’s color info. center display. OnStar and Wi-Fi are available. Heated front seats and rear seats are upholstered in Jet Black leather.

New technology includes a universal home remote. A 10-speaker Bose audio system comes standard, along with a power liftgate and keyless remote entry and start. The new Traverse RS variant also is equipped with enhanced driver-assistance systems that include lane-change alert with side blind-spot alert, rear cross-traffic alert, rear park assist, and surround vision along with a rear camera mirror plus GM’s teen driver system.
