Chevrolet Takes Corvette Grand Sport to Geneva Motor Show

By Philly Murtha, March 02, 2016
Lightweight and rich in race-car-sportiness and heritage may go over well in the European market—at least when it comes to Chevrolet’s introduction of the Corvette Grand Sport this week at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The production coupe and convertible variants will reach U.S. dealer showrooms this summer and will be available this fall in Europe.

Corvette Racing has lifted motorsports elements to give the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport motorsports-bred genetics, according to Chevrolet. Available as a collector edition later this year, the Corvette Grand Sport combines lightweight architecture with an aerodynamics package plus special Michelin tires. The new Grand Sport features a naturally aspirated, LT1 V-8 engine that generates 468 horsepower mated with a standard 7-speed manual transmission or optional 8-speed paddle-shift automatic.

Grand Sport Corvette models are available in the full palette of Stingray exterior and interior colors, and there’s a special fender graphics package in six colors. Special body-length strips also will be available. This potent Corvette with its Grand Sport racing legacy includes a host of features such as special wheels in different sizes for the front and rear, special Brembo brake system, performance tuning including stabilizers and unique springs, and standard electronic limited-slip differential.

In addition, the Z07 package is an option with carbon ceramic matrix brakes and Michelin Pilot Sports Cup 2 tires. A design package is also offered featuring special front fender inserts, a Z06-style grille, and wider rear fenders.
