Buick Updates 2019 Envision Compact SUV with More Performance, Lower Price

By Philly Murtha, February 26, 2018
General Motors’ Buick brand has added more power and reduced pricing on its upgraded 2019 Envision compact SUV that reaches dealer showrooms in April. The new Envision, produced in China, has been revised to appeal to current owners of Buick’s smaller Encore when ready for a trade-up. The Envision, which launched in 2016, will come in five trims for the 2019 model year, with a suggested starting price of $32,990, minus fees. That’s about $2,000 below the 2018 model’s starting price.

With seating for 5, the 2019 Buick Envision features a few design enhancements including a more sculpted front, rear, and signature tri-shield grille with optional larger 19-in. wheels. Power has been upscaled with 35 lb.-ft. of extra torque in the 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine to make 252 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque when matched with a new 9-speed automatic transmission. The peppier engine boosts 0-60 mph acceleration by nearly one-half second from the prior model’s time, Buick says. The base model is equipped with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are offered.

Other changes to the 2019 Envision include adding an engine start/stop deactivation switch that shuts off the engine at stoplights to reduce fuel consumption. A new brake booster eases brake pedal effort. Advanced driver-assistance systems include a default adaptive cruise control system, wider visibility rearview camera, and enhanced voice-recognition software and microphone. All 2019 Envision trims feature new HID lighting systems, with bi-functional LED lighting offered on higher trim levels. Buick also offers a tire monitor that alerts the driver when recommended tire pressure is reached.

Inside the cabin, Buick updates the 2019 Envision’s seat heating, and makes next-generation wireless charging more efficient and compatible with the latest iPhones. An 8-in. infotainment system with Wi-Fi hotspot is standard. Additional safety systems offered include rear park assist, surround vision, and forward automatic emergency braking. The new Envision also is equipped with an air ionizer to eliminate odors and provide cleaner air.
