2019 Volkswagen Arteon Halo Fastback Bows at Chicago Auto Show

By Philly Murtha, February 08, 2018
This week, Volkswagen unwraps its all-new 2019 Arteon flagship midsize sedan that is the “spiritual successor” to the VW CC at the Chicago Auto Show. The new VW halo car that seats five, has a wider stance with “sleek coupe cues” and “gran turismo” comfort, plus lots more advanced technology systems. This hatchback replacement for the CC is built on the German automaker’s new MQB modular architecture that is shared with Audi A4 and VW Tiguan. It is set to reach U.S. dealer showrooms in three trim levels during the third quarter of 2018.

On the outside, Arteon is bolder and sleeker and emphasizes style and performance, according to a VW official. Arteon is more than five inches longer than the CC with a wider stance and sloping rear roof line. Standard LED lighting systems, a wide chrome grille and frameless windows complete the new look. Dual exhaust tips and rear decklid spoiler add a premium, sporty aerodynamic touch.

The 2019 Arteon is powered by a 2.0-liter TSI 4-cylinder engine matched with an 8-speed automatic that makes 268 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. VW’s 4Motion all-wheel Drive (AWD) is optional. The new Arteon sports 18-in. aluminum alloy wheels and can be ordered with 19-in. wheels.

Inside, premium materials and modern design are similar to VW Group’s Audi luxury brand interiors. Heated front seats come with standard leatherette upholstery. Optional ventilated and massaging driver’s seat and Nappa leather plus heated back seats also are available. Behind the cabin’s back seat is 19.9 cu. ft. of cargo space.

An army of standard technology components include: keyless entry, push-button start, an 8-in. touchscreen infotainment system and full smartphone connectivity. Advanced safety systems feature rearview camera, forward collision warning, emergency braking assist, blind spot monitor with rear traffic alert. VW’s advanced adaptive cruise, lane assist, light assist, park distance control and park assist are optional. In addition, VW’s Digital Cockpit, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, massaging driver’s seat, plus premium Dynaudio sound system also can be ordered.
