2019 Kia Optima Sedan Adds Standard Safety Systems

By Philly Murtha, March 29, 2018
In New York this week, Kia officials previewed changes in the 2019 Kia Optima midsize sedan. Although they gave a few details about exterior and interior enhancements, the main attraction for the new model is standard advanced safety technology across all trims (LX, S, EX, SX plus SXL). Kia’s 2019 Optima midsize sedan is slated to reach dealer showrooms later this year.

Big news is the expanded group of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that becomes standard in the Kia 2019 Optima across all trim levels includes forward collision-avoidance and warning systems with automatic emergency braking, driver attention warning plus lane keep assist and lane departure warning systems.

Additional enhancements for the 2019 Optima begin with the base LX trim receiving standard LED running lights, 16-in. alloy wheels and a matte-gray finish grille. Exterior enhancements for the S trim include LED lighting systems, projector beam fog lamps, dual exhausts, sporty side sills with gloss black trim plus gloss black grille and 18-in. wheels. Push-button start is also standard.

Optima’s more upscale EX trim rides on 18.-in. alloy wheels and is outfitted with a turbo-charged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 178 horsepower matched with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic. In addition, this trim level plus the upscale SX and SX Limited (SXL) come standard with adaptive cruise control for 2019. Available options new for EX are ambient interior lighting, and a heated steering wheel.

In terms of comfort and interior style, higher trims are available with optional interior upgrades, including two-tone sports seats in red and black leather. Additionally, the top-line SXL variant also is available with new two-tone bronze and black Nappa leather seating. Also, a panoramic roof and Harman Kardon premium sound system with UVO link and navigation are available. For 2019, Kia organizes its UVO connected infotainment systems into three levels set up for different trims. In addition, Kia’s Smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto also are standard on all trims.
