2015 Volvo V60 Wagon on Sale in January

By Jeff Youngs, September 16, 2013
The long-awaited successor to the defunct Volvo V50 and V70 station wagon models, the 2015 Volvo V60, arrives in dealer showrooms in January, according to a statement from the automaker. With the announcement of the new V60 model's on-sale date, Volvo also introduces the first member of its new Drive-E family of engines, and outlines the V60's entire powertrain lineup.

"This is an exciting time of transformation for Volvo and shows our Swedish heart is beating strongly," said Volvo Cars of North America president and CEO John Maloney. "The V60 signifies our first step in a gradual move toward powerful, highly efficient, 4-cylinder engines across the entire portfolio of our vehicles."

Volvo's new 2015 V60 will be sold in T5 FWD, T5 AWD, and T6 AWD variants. The T5 front-driver receives a new Drive-E turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine rated to make 240 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque, making the new engine slightly more powerful than what Audi installs in its Allroad wagon. In addition to providing reduced emissions and improved gas mileage, the new Drive-E engine is designed to serve as the foundation for gas/electric hybrid technology in the future. Official fuel-economy estimates will be available closer to the car's arrival at Volvo dealers.

The Volvo V60 T5 AWD will continue to employ the automaker's current turbocharged, 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine. In the V60, it is rated to produce 250 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque.

At the top of the lineup, the Volvo V60 T6 AWD receives a turbocharged, 3.0-liter V-6 engine good for 324 horsepower and 354 lb.-ft. of torque. An R-Design package will be offered for the V60 T6 AWD, one that transforms the V60 into "the fastest and most powerful wagon in Volvo history," according to the company. Models with the R-Design treatment receive exterior design enhancements, an Advanced Quick Shift transmission, and other upgrades.

Volvo says it will announce 2015 V60 prices closer to the car's official launch.
