2015 Porsche Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS Acceleration Times Announced

Would you like to know how fast the new 2015 Porsche Boxster GTS and 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS can accelerate to 60 mph? The former hits that mark in 4.4 seconds, while the latter achieves the same velocity in 4.3 seconds, according to Porsche.

Of course, you've got to have the right setup to make a Boxster GTS or a Cayman GTS go that fast. First, you need to specify the optional 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) transmission, an automated manual gearbox that does not require that the driver push a clutch pedal. Second, you need to activate the car's Sport Plus button. Third, you need to push down hard on the accelerator pedal. The Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS models take care of everything else.

If you're seeking maximum top speed, you'll want to keep the standard manual gearbox. Porsche says that with the manual installed, the Boxster GTS can hit a top speed of 174 mph, while the Cayman GTS reaches 177 mph.

Performance gains are courtesy of slight power increases for both the Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS. Each car is equipped with a specially tuned version of the 3.4-liter, 6-cylinder boxer-type engine that comes standard in the Boxster S and Cayman S models. In this latest application, the engine is tuned to deliver 10 extra horsepower and 7 additional lb.-ft. of torque. In the Boxster GTS, the result is 330 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque, while the Cayman GTS gets 340 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque.

Beyond enough power and speed to easily revoke your driver's license, what else is included for the new 2015 Boxster GTS and 2015 Cayman GTS? This performance-tuned sports car is equipped with a standard sport exhaust system, Porsche Active Suspension Management technology, Sport Chrono package, and 20-in. Carrera S wheels with 235/35 performance tires in front and 265/35 performance tires in back.

Visually, the Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS are distinguished by subtle front and rear styling revisions, as well as a blacked-out appearance for the headlights, wheels, and exhaust outlets. Inside, these models have standard Sport Seats Plus as well as Alcantara trim for the steering wheel, headliner, center console, and seat inserts. To remind the owner that he or she owns something special, the tachometer face has "GTS" script, which is repeated in embroidery on the seat head restraints.

Porsche says the new Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS will go on sale in the summer of 2014. Prices start at $73,500 for the Boxster GTS and $75,200 for the Cayman GTS. The destination charge is $995, and as is true of any Porsche model, buyers can tailor and personalize the car in myriad ways to ensure no two are exactly alike.
