2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition to be Rarest Miata Ever

2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition to be Rarest Miata Ever

By Jeff Youngs, May 01, 2014
During the first two decades it was on sale, the Mazda Miata was frequently offered in limited-production, special-edition specification, but Mazda never restricted them in the way it plans to for the new 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition. This globally available model, announced at the 2014 New York International Auto Show, will be limited to 100 units for the U.S. market.

A redesigned MX-5 Miata is due for the 2016 model year, so this 25th Anniversary Edition is likely the last special edition to be offered in third-generation guise. In addition to cosmetic changes, this version of the Miata receives engine tweaks designed to give it a more free-revving nature and more responsive acceleration. Additionally, those versions equipped with a manual gearbox will also get Bilstein shock absorbers.

Color is the focus of many of the cosmetic changes to the car. Each one of the 2015 MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition models is painted Soul Red, a premium paint color previously unavailable for Mazda's roadster. The windshield pillars, side mirrors, and power-retractable hardtop are painted Brilliant Black, black front bumper extensions add a more aggressive appearance, and the headlights feature darkened bezels for a sportier look. The new 25th Anniversary Edition rides on 17-in. aluminum wheels with a Dark Gunmetal finish.

Inside, this special version of the Miata is equipped with Almond leather and door trim with exposed red stitching, and Black leather covers the steering wheel, door panel armrests, parking brake handle, and shifter surround. The seats face a dashboard decorated with a red trim panel featuring a hand-painted Piano Black gradation effect. Additional upgrades include Liquid Metal Satin chrome accents, aluminum alloy pedals, stainless steel door scuff plates, 25th Anniversary badges, and a plaque etched with the car's serialized production number.

In New York, Mazda said it planned to sell the special-edition model by pre-order only, and through its website. The car is expected to arrive just in time for summer.
