2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Edition 507 on Sale in Summer After Geneva Debut

By Jeff Youngs, February 06, 2013
At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz will introduce the 2014 C63 AMG Edition 507, scheduled to arrive in the United States in the summer of 2013, replacing the optional AMG Performance package that is currently offered for this model. The C63 AMG Edition 507 Coupe and Sedan are named for the engine's 507-horsepower rating, 26 more ponies than the current AMG Performance package can muster.

To increase the horsepower rating to 507 at 6,800 rpm and bump torque to 450 lb.-ft. at 5,200 rpm, the C63 AMG 507 Edition's 6.3-liter V-8 engine employs forged pistons from the SLS AMG sports car, combined with new forged connecting rods and a new lightweight crankshaft for a 6.6-lb. reduction of rotational mass inertia inside of the engine. A new engine control system is also added, and Mercedes paints the variable intake manifold gray to give the car a unique appearance under the hood.

According to Mercedes, the 2014 C63 AMG Edition 507 accelerates to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. That is faster than a standard C63 AMG (4.4 seconds) and is quicker than a C63 AMG equipped with the AMG Performance Development package (4.3 seconds). Top speed is a claimed 174 mph, and every C63 AMG Edition 507 comes with a voucher for free driver control training at the AMG Driving Academy.

In addition to its more robust engine output figures, the C63 AMG Edition 507 is equipped with an AMG high-performance braking system with red brake calipers and compound front brake discs designed to resist fatigue, resist warping, and to reduce unsprung mass, which consists of the wheels, tires and brake components. Six-piston front calipers and 4-piston rear calipers clamp down on perforated and ventilated discs at each corner. A locking rear differential is optional.

Exterior modifications include a new ventilated hood from the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series model, a Matte Gray AMG sports stripe along the rocker panels, and new AMG lightweight forged 19-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 235/35 front and 255/35 rear tires. The wheels are finished in the buyer's choice between Titanium Gray or Matte Black wheel finish. The rear spoiler, mirror caps, and grille surrounds are painted in Gloss Black, and Mercedes offers exclusive Designo Magno Platinum matte-finish paint as an option for this model.

Inside, the C63 AMG Edition 507's interior is upholstered in Black Designo leather or a choice between Porcelain or Black leather with Dinamica seat inserts. The seats feature light-color contrast stitching, the AMG Performance steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara and provides a centering stripe, and the shift knob is covered in Dinamica. Red instrument dial accents and high-gloss piano lacquer interior trim are standard, with carbon fiber trim offered as an option.

Pricing for the new 2014 Mercedes C63 AMG Edition 507 will be announced closer to its arrival in showrooms.
