2014 Land Rover LR4 Receives Numerous Changes for New Model Year

By Jeff Youngs, September 05, 2013
Known globally as the Discovery, this Land Rover SUV is called the LR4 in the U.S. market. For 2014, the Land Rover LR4 receives a number of updates related to styling, mechanicals, technology, and safety.

On the outside, the 2014 LR4 receives new front styling including a revised grille, bumper, and headlights that now contain LED running lights. Land Rover has also redesigned the LR4's wheel selections for 2014. Inside, the LR4 gains new audio systems supplied by Meridian, the same company that provides components for Jaguar models. The standard system offers 380 watts of power and 8 speakers. An optional 17-speaker surround-sound system delivers 825 watts of power.

In the United States, a 5.0-liter V-8 engine generating 375 horsepower and 375 lb.-ft. of torque continues, now equipped with automatic start/stop technology and a new 8-speed automatic transmission. Both updates help the LR4 better conserve fuel.

Among the technology upgrades for the 2014 LR4, blind-spot monitoring and reverse-traffic detection are available for the first time. Additionally, the new LR4 can be equipped with Closing Vehicle Sensing, a T-Junction Camera system to help see around blind corners, and a Wade Sensing depth-detection system.

The new LR4, aka Discovery, will officially debut next week at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
