2014 Jeep Cherokee Photos Show Liberty Replacement

By Jeff Youngs, February 27, 2013
Jeep will debut the new 2014 Cherokee at the 2013 New York Auto Show in March, but the company has elected to provide a few images and a few details about the new midsize SUV in advance of the new Jeep Cherokee's official introduction.

In a short statement, Jeep characterized the 2014 Cherokee as a "no compromise" SUV with "best-in-class capability" and "exemplary on-road driving dynamics," and promises a 45% improvement in fuel economy compared to the discontinued Jeep Liberty. The Liberty replaced the boxy and beloved 1984-2001 Cherokee for the 2002 model year.

Based on the images released by Jeep, the new 2014 Cherokee displays a new design direction for the brand. The signature 7-slot grille wraps up into the hood, and the headlight arrangement is a split design, not unlike that of the Nissan Juke, with running lights defining the upper front corners of the SUV and small headlights mounted between the running lights and the fog lights.

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee shown in the photos appears to be a higher trim level, equipped with LED lighting, chrome grille slot and lower grille surrounds, and polished aluminum wheels. Gray cladding wraps around traditional trapezoidal wheel wells, along the bottom of the doors, and on the lower portion of the front bumper.

More photos, information, and specifications for the 2014 Jeep Cherokee will be available closer to the official debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show. Built in Toledo, Ohio, the new Cherokee is scheduled to go on sale in the third quarter of 2013.
