2014 Buick LaCrosse Changes Refine Flagship Sedan

By Jeff Youngs, March 26, 2013
The 2014 Buick LaCrosse receives numerous styling, equipment, and technology changes designed to refine the vehicle. Buick introduced the new 2014 LaCrosse at the 2013 New York International Auto Show.

Exterior updates include new front and rear styling, with a larger grille, wing-shaped LED running lights and taillights, new bumpers, revised rear chrome trim spear, and a modified hood equipped with signature Venti-ports that are visible on the sides. Buick also offers new wheel designs and paint colors for the 2014 LaCrosse.

Inside, the 2014 Buick LaCrosse receives new seats, a standard 8-inch touch-screen control panel display, and next-generation IntelliLink technology with natural voice recognition. New Kyoto Maple, Phantasm, and Shadow Tamo Ash wood trim selections are available, the latter exclusive to the new Ultra Luxury package. LaCrosse models equipped with the Ultra Luxury package also have bespoke Sangria-colored semi-aniline premium leather for the seats, center console armrest, and door panel armrests, as well as Ebony cabin accents and synthetic suede covering the headliner and roof pillars.

New safety equipment is available for the 2014 LaCrosse, including a vibrating Safety Alert Seat. Additionally, the updated LaCrosse is offered with side blind-zone alert, Lane Change Alert, lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and Automatic Collision Preparation systems. A new adaptive cruise control system also debuts for 2014. This system provides full-speed-range operation that can bring the Buick to a complete stop without requiring the driver to use the brakes and then resume the set speed with a touch of a button or the accelerator pedal.

Otherwise, the 2014 LaCrosse is nearly identical to the 2013 model, continuing to offer standard eAssist technology as standard equipment. The LaCrosse's eAssist mild-hybrid powertrain pairs a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with an electric assist motor and a lithium-ion battery to generate a combined 182 horsepower while returning approximately 29 mpg in combined driving, according to the EPA. A direct-injection 3.6-liter V-6 is optional, generating 304 horsepower. The V-6 engine is E85-compatible and is available with an all-wheel-drive system.

Trunk space also remains the same as last year at 10.8 cubic feet with the standard eAssist powertrain, and 13.3 cubic feet with the optional V-6 engine. These measurements are on par with compact sedans, not the full-size sedans against which the 2014 LaCrosse competes.

"We evolved the interior and exterior design, increased luxury amenities and materials, and enhanced the safety and personal technologies to give customers more reasons than ever to rediscover Buick," said Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president of Buick marketing, about the refreshed 2014 LaCrosse.

Built in Kansas, the 2014 Buick LaCrosse goes on sale in the summer of 2013.
