2014 Audi TDI Fuel-Economy Ratings and Prices Made Official

By Jeff Youngs, June 12, 2013
For the 2014 model year, Audi is introducing three additional models equipped with the automaker's turbocharged, 3.0-liter V-6 clean diesel engine. The engine, which Audi claims will deliver up to 30% better fuel economy and up to 30% fewer carbon dioxide emissions than a traditional gasoline engine, will be available in the 2014 A6 TDI, 2014 A7 TDI, and the 2014 Q5 TDI. In each application, the engine will make 240 horsepower and 428 lb.-ft. of torque, and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel-drive.

"Audi has been at the forefront of clean diesel since the introduction of Audi TDI technology in the U.S. in 2009," said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America. "The introduction of the highly-efficient Audi A6, A7 and Q5 TDIs continue Audi's commitment to clean diesel technology and further the brand's focus on balanced performance solutions that improve efficiency and driving dynamics."

Installed in the A6, the TDI powertrain accelerates the car to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, by Audi's stopwatch. Fuel-economy ratings are 24 mpg in the city, 38 mpg on the highway, and 29 mpg in combined driving. The price for the new A6 TDI is $57,500, and the model is equipped with Premium Plus trim as standard equipment.

The new A7 TDI, which Audi calls "the first clean diesel 5-door coupe," is priced from $66,900. This model matches the A6 TDI in terms of fuel economy and acceleration to 60 mph, and is equipped with Premium Plus features as standard.

Starting at $46,500, the new Q5 TDI is priced $4,400 less than the Q5 Hybrid. Acceleration to 60 mph requires 6.5 seconds, according to Audi, and the Q5 TDI is expected to return 24 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg in combined driving. Those EPA estimates best the Q5 Hybrid, which is rated 25/30/26 mpg.

Audi says its new trio of TDI models will go on sale at the end of the summer of 2013. The company also plans to launch an A3 TDI after that redesigned model arrives in the United States.
