Top-Rated Trucks in the 2015 Initial Quality Study
By Christian Wardlaw, June 19, 2015
In order to measure customer satisfaction with the quality of new vehicles, J.D. Power surveys thousands of people who have owned their new cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans for at least 90 days. The result is the benchmark J.D. Power Initial Quality StudySM (IQS). Based upon this research, the company calculates Power Circle Ratings (PCRs) that help to summarize findings for consumers. Based on those PCRs, this guide includes the highest-rated trucks, according to the 2015 IQS. They are listed below in alphabetical order.
2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Chevrolet redesigned its full-size, light-duty pickup truck for the 2014 model year, and refines the Silverado 1500 for 2015. A new 8-speed automatic transmission is included with the available 6.2-liter V-8 engine, and tow ratings are adjusted to SAE J2807 standards. Several special-edition versions of the Silverado also debut, new infotainment technologies arrive, and Chevrolet offers a factory spray-in bed liner for the Silverado.
In the 2015 IQS, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is the highest-ranked model in the Large Light Duty Pickup segment.
2015 Chevrolet Silverado HD
Redesigned for 2015, the Chevy Silverado Heavy Duty (HD) is available in a multitude of configurations. Towing and payload capacities improve, the interior is claimed to be roomier and more comfortable, and Chevrolet expands the number of infotainment and safety technologies available for this model. Three cab configurations continue, the new Double Cab replacing the previous extended cab and featuring four forward-hinged doors.
The Chevrolet Silverado HD ranks second in the Large Heavy Duty Pickup segment in the 2015 IQS.
2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty
Three versions of the Ford Super Duty are on sale in 2015: F-250, F-350, and F-450. A reworked, turbo-diesel, 6.7-liter V-8 engine is available this year, adding horsepower, torque, and overall capability. Get the F-350 for a new High Capacity Tow package, or the F-450 for strengthened suspension, braking, and steering components.
In the 2015 IQS, the Ford F-Series Super Duty is the highest-ranked model in the Large Heavy Duty Pickup segment.
2015 Ram 1500
Ram's 1500-series light-duty pickup truck lineup adds a new model for 2015. Called the Ram Rebel, this new version gets a raised air suspension, 17-in. wheels with 33-in. off-road tires, and more rugged styling cues. It is not, however, available with the optional EcoDiesel V-6 motor, which is installed in 20% of Ram 1500 models for 2015, according to the truck maker.
In the 2015 IQS, the Ram 1500 ranks second in the Large Light Duty Pickup segment.
