The J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) StudySM is designed to measure owner satisfaction with the performance, design, layout, and features of new vehicles that survey respondents have owned for at least 90 days. The goal is determine what they like the most and least about their vehicles.
From this research, J.D. Power creates Power Circle Ratings. These ratings are visual representations of how each make and model performs in the APEAL Study. Consumers can use the ratings while shopping for a new vehicle in order to help them to make the best decision possible.
This buyer’s guide highlights the top-rated 2017 Luxury SUVs priced under $50,000 from the 2017 U.S. APEAL Study. Each model listed in alphabetical order below receives a Power Circle Rating of 4 or 5 out of a possible 5 for overall appeal.
2017 BMW X1
Redesigned for 2016 and placed on BMW Group’s global front-wheel-drive architecture, which also provides the basis for Mini models, the X1 “sports activity vehicle” rolls into 2017 with minor suspension re-tuning. A turbocharged 4-cylinder engine provides power, and all-wheel drive is an option.
The 2017 BMW X1 receives an APEAL Power Circle Rating of 5 out of 5, and is the award recipient in the Small Premium SUV segment.
2017 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
Land Rover has steadily improved its stylish Evoque crossover SUV, and for 2017 it is offered in a new 2-door convertible body style. A sophisticated all-terrain traction control system also debuts. Existing 3-door and 5-door versions continue, and all Evoque’s have a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and 4-wheel drive.

2017 Lexus RX
One year after a radical redesign, the Lexus RX returns with a long list of standard driver assistance and collision avoidance technologies, as well as a connected navigation system. Otherwise, minor changes are made to the RX 350 and RX 450h hybrid versions of the 5-passenger midsize SUV.

2017 Porsche Macan
