Top-Rated 2015 Sedans: Performance and Design
By Christian Wardlaw, July 26, 2015
Conducted annually, the J.D. Power Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) StudySM measures how satisfying new cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans are to own, use, and drive, according to their owners. Survey respondents have owned their new vehicle for at least 90 days and report what they like and dislike about their vehicle.
From these owner opinions, J.D. Power calculates consumer-friendly Power Circle Ratings that summarize the APEAL Study's findings. Consumers who wish to purchase a vehicle that rates highly in overall appeal can use these ratings as a guide when they are shopping for a new vehicle.
The 2015 U.S. APEAL Study finds that the following mass-market sedans rate highest in terms of overall appeal within their respective segments. The models are listed below in alphabetical order, and each receives a Power Circle Rating of 5 (out of a possible 5) for overall appeal.
2015 Chevrolet Sonic
Among small sedans, the Chevrolet Sonic is the most appealing model, according to the people that own one. For 2015, Chevrolet adds a 4G LTE Wi-Fi mobile hotspot connection and also improves the Sonic's crash-test performance beginning with vehicles produced after February 2015. Buyers choose between LS, LT, LTZ, and RS trim levels. A 5-door hatchback version is also available.
2015 Dodge Charger
Restyled for 2015, the Dodge Charger is full-size sedan featuring reworked suspension and steering systems, as well as new performance-oriented variants including the 485-horsepower R/T Scat Pack and 707-horsepower Charger SRT Hellcat models. New infotainment and safety technologies also debut with the 2015 Charger's arrival.
2015 Hyundai Sonata
Hyundai redesigned the Sonata for 2015, making the car larger inside and adopting changes intended to make this midsize family sedan more refined, safer, and more enjoyable to drive. New safety and infotainment technologies are also available, as well as turbocharged engine options that provide greater fuel economy or performance, depending on the model.
2015 Mazda 6
Among midsize sedans, the Mazda 6 is the most appealing model, according to owners. Aside from minor equipment adjustments and a new paint color, Mazda makes no changes for the 2015 model year, offering the car in Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trim levels. A refreshed 2016 Mazda 6 was already on sale by the summer of 2015.
2015 Nissan Altima
One of the most appealing midsize sedans of 2015, the Nissan Altima is available with a 4-cylinder or a V-6 engine. This year, the V-6 engine is available only with the top SL trim level. Other versions of the car have the 4-cylinder engine. Most versions of the Altima gain additional standard equipment for 2015, but few changes were made to this popular family sedan.
