Top-Rated 2015 Coupes: Performance and Design
By Christian Wardlaw, July 25, 2015
Each year, the J.D. Power Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) StudySM measures what owners like and dislike about their new cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans after 90 days of vehicle ownership. Data is collected related to such areas as vehicle performance, styling, comfort, features. From this data, J.D. Power formulates Power Circle Ratings, consumer-friendly summaries of the study's findings. The ratings are published to help guide new-vehicle shoppers as they conduct research, helping them to understand which makes and models are the most gratifying to own, according to owners.
Listed below, in alphabetical order, are the mass-market coupe models that are the most appealing within their respective segments, according to the results of the 2015 U.S. APEAL Study. Each model receives a Power Circle Rating of 4 or 5 (out of a possible 5) for overall appeal.
2015 Dodge Challenger
Dodge gives the Challenger its most significant update since the retro-themed muscle car debuted in 2008. Revised styling, a new interior, modern infotainment and safety technologies, and an expanded lineup of performance models highlight the changes for 2015. Among the new versions of the Challenger, the SRT Hellcat makes 707 horsepower.
2015 Ford Mustang
To celebrate the original pony car's 50th anniversary, Ford completely redesigned the Mustang for 2015. A V-6 engine remains standard, and buyers can choose a new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine as a replacement for the V-6. The Mustang GT continues with a 5.0-liter V-8 engine, one making slightly more power for 2015.
2015 Honda Accord
The Honda Accord is the last remaining midsize, mass-market coupe for sale among 2015 models in the U.S. car market. For 2015, Honda added a standard roadside-assistance program for the first few years of ownership, and expanded availability of its Lane Watch technology. The Accord continues to offer either a 4-cylinder or V-6 engine, and is available in several trim levels.
2015 Kia Forte Koup
One year after a complete redesign, the Forte Koup continues for 2015, available with a choice between a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine or a turbocharged, 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine.
2015 Volkswagen Beetle
Distinctive due to its classic shape, the 2015 Volkswagen Beetle is upgraded with a new turbodiesel engine option. Volkswagen also offers a Classic trim level this year, one equipped with wheel covers and seat fabric designed to evoke memories of the original Bug sold during the 1960s and 1970s.
