In addition to introducing a redesigned Crosstrek compact crossover SUV for 2018, Subaru has freshened the Legacy midsize sedan, Outback midsize crossover, and WRX performance car. Limited-production versions of the BRZ and WRX STI debut, too. Next on Subaru’s to-do list: Launch the 7-passenger Ascent SUV.

2018 Subaru BRZ

  • New BRZ tS (tuned by STI) version debuts, with production limited to 500 units
  • The tS installs STI-tuned suspension components, additional engine compartment bracing, Brembo high-performance brakes, and lightweight 18-in. aluminum wheels wrapped in 215/40 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires
  • BRZ tS design upgrades include STI fog light covers; front, rear, and side underspoilers; adjustable carbon fiber rear spoiler; and unique trim details
  • Inside, the BRZ tS includes black leather and Alcantara suede seats with red stitching, red bolsters, and red seat belts; frameless rearview mirror; cast-black center console finish; and red accents throughout the interior
  • All BRZs now come with welcome lighting, automatic headlight operation when the windshield wipers are used, and one-touch lane-change signaling
  • Premium trim adds standard heated exterior mirrors
  • Limited and tS trims receive a new version of Starlink infotainment with a 7-in. display screen, navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto


2018 Subaru Crosstrek

  • Redesigned for 2018, now based on the Impreza 5-door hatchback
  • Continues to offer standard all-wheel drive, raised ground clearance of 8.7 ins., and SUV styling cues
  • 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine making 152 horsepower
  • 6-speed manual or continuously variable transmission
  • Available X-Mode to enhance drivetrain’s off-roading capability
  • Upgraded safety and next-generation infotainment technologies
  • Standard, Premium, and Limited trim levels
  • 20.8 cu.-ft. trunk expands to 55.3 cu. ft. of maximum cargo space


2018 Subaru Forester

  • New 2.5i Black Edition package, based on the 2.5i Premium trim level, gives the crossover a blacked-out exterior treatment in addition to other upgrades
  • Versions equipped with EyeSight driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technology add automatic high-beam headlights and automatic reverse braking system
  • Touring trim comes standard with EyeSight
  • 2.0XT Touring trim now includes Active Torque Vectoring


2018 Subaru Impreza

  • In most versions, the headlights automatically activate when the windshield wipers are used


2018 Subaru Legacy

  • Updated exterior styling and interior design
  • Subaru says the cabin has higher quality materials and is quieter
  • Transmission enhanced for more responsive acceleration
  • Suspension retuned for a smoother ride and more agile handling
  • Revised steering and braking promise improved driving dynamics
  • Upgraded infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, better voice-recognition system, and numerous embedded apps
  • Available LED steering-responsive headlights; with EyeSight automatic high-beam operation is included
  • Improved reversing camera, tire-pressure monitoring system, door locks, LATCH anchors, and air conditioning system, according to Subaru
  • New interior color: Gray
  • New exterior paint colors: Crimson Red and Magnetite Gray


2018 Subaru Outback

  • Minor styling and interior design, materials, and layout changes
  • Interior is claimed to be quieter than before thanks to several modifications
  • Improved air conditioning system for faster and more even cabin cooling
  • Retuned transmission, steering, suspension, and braking systems for improved driving dynamics, per Subaru
  • New infotainment system with larger standard screen, smartphone projection for Apple and Android devices, enhanced voice-recognition software, multiple embedded applications, and new USB ports for rear-seat passengers
  • Optional LED steering-responsive headlights; automatic high-beam headlights included with EyeSight driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems
  • Upgraded reversing camera, tire-pressure monitoring system, LATCH anchors for child safety seats, and automatic locking doors
  • New interior color: Titanium Gray


2018 Subaru WRX/WRX STI

  • Subtle changes to exterior styling, interior detailing
  • Reworked vehicle structure aims to improve frontal collision protection
  • Standard roof rack mounting brackets add versatility, while heated side mirrors improve winter visibility
  • Subaru claims interior is quieter than before, adds standard rear-seat armrest with cupholders, larger 5.9-in. driver information display, and white nighttime gauge illumination
  • With Limited trim and EyeSight driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies, both WRX and WRX STI versions gain Auto Vehicle Hold system and an EyeSight Assist Monitor that projects system status onto the windshield
  • For WRX, revised steering, suspension, and manual gearbox
  • WRX Premium trim adds a larger 7-in. display for its Starlink infotainment system, dark gray 18-in. wheels
  • New Performance package for WRX Premium installs Recaro performance seats, upgraded braking components with red-painted calipers, and deletes the power sunroof
  • WRX Limited trim includes welcome lighting, steering-responsive LED headlights, LED fog lights, 10-way power driver’s seat, and keyless entry with PIN code access
  • For WRX STI, mechanical changes include a retuned suspension, upgraded braking components, revised all-wheel-drive system, and 19-in. aluminum wheels
  • WRX STI includes standard steering-responsive LED headlights
  • Recaro seats optional for WRX STI, standard for WRX STI Limited
  • New WRX STI Type RA variant debuts, with production limited to 500 units
  • STI Type RA is lighter, makes more power, is geared for better performance, and employs unique suspension tuning along with a modified stability control system
  • STI Type RA is distinguished by special exterior detailing and interior materials
