Kia 2017 Model Overview

Kia is having a busy year. The automaker is launching the Niro, a gas-electric hybrid with style, utility, and 50 mpg in combined driving. Redesigned Cadenza sedan and Sportage crossover SUV models also arrive, and the Optima family sedan lineup expands with hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. The Soul adds an available turbocharged engine, and many Kia models get next-generation infotainment systems along with active headlights and automatic emergency braking.

2017 Kia Cadenza

  • Redesigned full-size sedan
  • Longer wheelbase, wider body, more rear-seat room
  • Upgraded interior materials, quality, quietness, and convenience systems
  • Stronger structure, full suite of driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies
  • Next-generation infotainment system with smartphone-projection capability, wireless smartphone charging, and available Infinity premium sound system with Clari-Fi music-restoration technology
  • Standard 290-horsepower, 3.3-liter V-6 engine with new 8-speed automatic transmission
  • Improved driving dynamics with better brakes, optimized suspension tuning


2017 Kia Forte

  • Kia’s compact sedan receives styling updates
  • New standard engine is a more efficient 2.0-liter 4-cylinder making 147 horsepower
  • A 164-horsepower, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine remains available
  • Drive Mode Select gives drivers three modes from which to choose
  • S trim level debuts with a sportier appearance, stiffer suspension
  • Forte now offered with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, curve-illuminating headlights, and blind-spot warning system with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert
  • Next-generation infotainment technology installs Apple CarPlay, Android Auto smartphone-projection capability along with new navigation system

2017 Kia Forte Koup

  • Kia has not made any announcements about the Forte Koup for the 2017 model year.


2017 Kia K900

  • Standard equipment list expands to include blind-spot warning with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert


2017 Kia Niro

  • New gas-electric hybrid vehicle in 5-door multi-purpose vehicle body style
  • Pairs 1.6-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor, Lithium-ion polymer battery, regenerative braking system, and 6-speed dual-clutch transmission
  • Total horsepower measures 139, and Niro is expected to get up to 50 mpg in combined driving
  • Trim levels include FE, LX, EX, and Touring
  • Available with full slate of Kia’s latest driver-assistance, collision-avoidance, and infotainment technologies
  • Cargo area expands from 19.4 cu. ft. to 54.5 cu. ft. with the rear seat folded down
  • At some point in the future, a plug-in hybrid version of the Niro will arrive


2017 Kia Optima

  • Redesigned Optima Hybrid and a new Optima Plug-in Hybrid join the lineup
  • Optima Hybrid combined power output measures 193 horsepower, returns 42 mpg in combined driving
  • Optima Plug-in Hybrid makes a combined 202 horsepower, provides up to 29 miles of electric range, then operates as a gas-electric hybrid getting 40 mpg in combined driving
  • Recharging time for Plug-in Hybrid is 9 hours using a standard household electrical outlet, and 3 hours using a 240-volt charger
  • Next-generation UVO3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone-projection technology
  • New wheel design for Optima SX Limited
  • New Merlot leather color for Optima SX


2017 Kia Rio

  • New colors for LX: Red and Black
  • SX sedan is discontinued


2017 Kia Sedona

  • Automatic emergency braking available for all but the base LX trim level
  • Latest version of UVO infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone-projection technology
  • Available curve-illuminating headlights for SX and SX Limited
  • New steering wheel and transmission shifter designs


2017 Kia Sorento

  • 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine offered only for LX trim
  • Turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine offered only for EX trim
  • All other Sorento trim levels have a 3.3-liter V-6 engine
  • Automatic emergency braking system standard or optional for all trim levels
  • Active curve-illuminating headlights for SX and SX Limited
  • Next-generation infotainment system gains Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone-projection technology


2017 Kia Soul

  • Minor styling updates, with new aluminum wheel designs
  • Standard Drive Mode Select for all Souls with a gasoline engine
  • Plus trim level adds automatic climate control
  • Exclaim trim level gains turbocharged, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 201 horsepower, along with 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission, larger brakes, HID headlights
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone-projection technology added to infotainment system
  • Available 8-way power front passenger’s seat, blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert
  • New colors: Mysterious Blue and Russet Brown


2017 Kia Sportage

  • Kia’s compact crossover SUV is completely redesigned
  • LX, EX, and SX Turbo trim levels
  • 181-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine in LX and EX
  • 240-horsepower, turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine in SX Turbo
  • Standard 6-speed automatic driving the front or all four wheels
  • Built around stiff new architecture with improved crash protection, larger interior, bigger cargo area
  • New driver-assistance, collision-avoidance, and infotainment technologies
  • Available upscale touches include leather interior, heated and ventilated front seats, hands-free power liftgate, Harman Kardon premium sound system, panoramic sunroof
