New for 2016: Volkswagen

New for 2016: Volkswagen

By Philly Murtha, January 27, 2016

Although Volkswagen is in the process of coming up with fixes on many of its diesel-powered models so that they meet emissions requirements, parent VW Group is moving ahead with work to develop plug-in hybrids. For 2016, the Volkswagen brand also is focusing on adding technology to its lineup. Models are equipped with latest-generation MIB II infotainment systems that can be paired with all three smartphone apps (Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink) for greater system connectivity. The new infotainment system links to VW’s Car-Net connected-vehicle services subscription for security features, remote vehicle access, advanced telematics, and enhanced navigation. In addition, VW is rolling out new advanced driver-assistance technology. The major model update for 2016 is a refreshed Passat midsize sedan, now built at VW’s plant in Chattanooga, TN. Also, the Eos convertible, which was expected to be discontinued in 2015, returns in one trim level for 2016.
