New for 2016: Subaru

By Philly Murtha, November 09, 2015

Subaru is a Japanese niche-market auto brand set up in 1968 by parent firm Fuji Heavy Industries. The brand is known for all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrains with a range of Boxer low-profile engines. Subaru also is known for wagons/SUVs that appeal to consumers with active sport-oriented lifestyles. In 2015, Subaru introduced redesigned Impreza, Legacy, Outback, WRX, and WRX STI models, while the Forester was last redone in 2014. The brand’s focus in 2016 is to offer more advanced safety technology features and enhance the functionality of its latest generation Starlink infotainment system platform, which is standard on more model trim levels this year. Subaru promotes a reputation for safety and notes that most of its models have earned “Top Safety Pick” designations from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the past six years.
