Mini, owned by BMW Group since 1994, is turning into a more upscale brand with two redesigned models for 2016 that replace the discontinued 2-seat Coupe and Roadster. Powered by efficient BMW engines, the 2016 Mini Cooper Convertible is a 4-seat, open-top car built on a larger BMW architecture. The second new model is the 2016 Mini Clubman 5-passenger family vehicle that is the largest Mini ever built. Both are available in more colors and variations with more premium features and technologies.

Following is an overview of new or updated features for each 2016 Mini model:

2016 Mini Cooper Clubman

  • Redesigned, bigger and longer than standard Cooper and Countryman models
  • 5-passenger seating with forward-hinged rear doors
  • Black trim on bottom edges of body
  • Turbocharged 3-cylinder and 4-cylinder engines
  • Standard 6-speed manual transmission plus new 8-speed automatic for Clubman S
  • Rides on 16-in. aluminum wheels; S has 17-in. wheels
  • First Mini with power-adjustable front seats
  • Cargo space extends to 47.9 cu. ft.
  • New lighting, safety, and infotainment technologies
  • 12 exterior paint colors, including “Mini Yours Lapisluxury Blue” with matching or different color roof and mirrors

2016 Mini Cooper Convertible/Cooper Hardtop

  • Convertible (March 2016 availiability) is redesigned and shares a platform and powertrains with Mini Cooper Hardtop
  • Cloth soft-top available in 11 colors; top lowers and raises in 18 seconds
  • New rain-sensing system uses Mini Connected weather data
  • Active protection system with invisible roll bar
  • Standard turbocharged, 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine produces 134 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque; peppier 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine standard in Cooper S
  • More spacious interior and cargo area
  • Standard 15-in. aluminum wheels; 16-in. wheels on Cooper S
  • New advanced driver-assistance, infotainment, and convenience technologies
  • Mini Hardtop now qualifies as a SULEV (super ultra-low-emissions vehicle) thanks to technical updates to the 3-cylinder engine
  • Mini Hardtop trim and grille finished in high gloss Piano Black instead of silver

2016 Mini Cooper Countryman

  • Full Loaded package is updated
  • New limited-edition Park Lane package features two new colors: gray metallic with red oak roof and mirror caps plus interior silver, gray and oak red accents for all trim levels
  • Light Coffee exterior paint color discontinued

2016 Mini Cooper Paceman

  • Full Loaded package is updated
  • Light Coffee exterior paint color discontinued
