New for 2016: Jeep

The 2016 lineup of Jeep SUVs shows no remarkable changes. Some new colors have been introduced to several models, and the various technologies have been updated. Some trim levels have been eliminated but their features remain in the form of option packages. The iconic Wrangler is available in a special edition, and several of the models have gained a little interior space.

Following is a list of new or updated features for each 2016 Jeep model:

2016 Jeep Cherokee
  • Aluminum suspension added to SRT trim, reducing vehicle weight
  • New Rhino Clear Coat and Light Brownstone exterior colors
  • Driver comfort enhancements include revised steering column tilt, instrument cluster, and front seats
  • Both V-6 and V-8 versions also add electric power steering
  • Interior features 8.4-in. display screen with many personalization features
  • New acoustic laminate windows reduce cabin noise
  • New bi-xenon projector headlamps improve nighttime visibility
  • Refurbished grille features chrome accents around it and a black background
  • Vehicle is slightly longer than last year’s model
  • Optional saddle brown perforated leather seating
  • Limited trim level has been dropped; Sport SE appearance package has been added
  • All gas V-6 and 5.7-liter V-8 Grand Cherokees receive improved fuel efficiency
  • Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 adds fuel-saving and engine start/stop technology
  • New 3.6-liter V-6 technology includes cooled exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR), advanced two-step variable valve lift (VVL) system, and upgraded variable-valve timing (VVT) system
  • Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine now rated at 295 horsepower
  • 3.0-liter EcoDiesel, 3.6-liter, and 5.7-liter models receive electric power steering with customizable settings, decreased tire rolling resistance, and weight reductions due to aluminum suspension components
  • Lineup now includes High Altitude special edition, which features premium appearance content
  • New polystable shifter and Ivory Tri-coat paint color are available on Overland, Summit, and SRT versions
  • Ultimate performance Grand Cherokee SRT returns with newly designed instrument panel gauge cluster, all-new drive modes, revised SRT Performance Pages, and weight reduction due to aluminum suspension components
  • Limited trim level has been eliminated; Sport and Latitude versions remain
  • Latitude adds automatic headlights
  • Bluetooth and satellite radio are standard equipment on all trim levels
  • Safety options include rearview camera
  • New grille features seven vertical openings below the Jeep logo
  • Redesigned headlights work with LED daytime running lights
  • Interior features more cabin space and longer dashboard
  • Available premium BeatsAudio system includes 9 speakers with a 6.5-in. subwoofer and 506-watt amplifier for studio-quality sound
  • 2016 Renegade offers rain-sensing wipers as standard on the Limited and Trailhawk and as an option on Latitude
  • Available in Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk versions in 10 exterior paint colors, including the new-for-2016 Granite Crystal Metallic and Jetset Blue Metallic Clear Coat
  • New Black Bear Edition features black and grey interior plus power and connectivity options included as standard equipment. Exterior features black grille, black and grey trim, and choice of soft or hard top.
  • New exterior colors include Hypergreen and Mojave Rhino Sand
  • New trim levels include Unlimited Rubicon and Willys
  • Exterior design changes include a more curved bumper and smaller windshield, as well as a slightly higher clearance
  • Aluminum elements reduce vehicle weight and may improve fuel efficiency as well as stability
  • Standard engine will be a 3.6-liter V-6 that generates 285 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque
