New for 2015: Toyota Trucks, SUVs, and Vans

New for 2015: Toyota Trucks, SUVs, and Vans

By Jeff Youngs, November 18, 2014

2015 Toyota Trucks, SUVs, and Vans Overview

Coming off of a couple of model years accented by a significant amount of change, things are fairly quiet for Toyota's lineup of 2015 trucks, SUVs/crossovers, and vans. The company has even thinned the herd, so to speak, by discontinuing the FJ Cruiser.

Among the players still in the game, the Sienna minivan leads with styling and equipment revisions, while the 4Runner, Tacoma, and Tundra are poised to tackle trails with even more tenacity, courtesy of new TRD Pro Series variants. The 5-passenger Venza incorporates a standard rearview camera and modifies the availability of its V-6 engine, and the popular RAV4 adds a couple of new colors, but for the rest of the group--including the Highlander, Land Cruiser, and the Sequoia--2015 is the year of the status quo for Toyota trucks.

2015 Toyota 4Runner
After some mild revisions for 2014, Toyota's rugged, body-on-frame 4Runner SUV returns for 2015 with only one notable update. New this year is the available TRD Pro Series, distinguished from other 2015 4Runners courtesy of a heavy-duty off-road suspension, Nitto all-terrain tires, front skid plate, unique 17-in. wheels, and black exterior accents. Color choices include Black, White, and Inferno.

In addition to the TRD Pro, the 2015 Toyota 4Runner is offered in SR5, SR5 Premium, Trail, Trail Premium, and Limited trim levels. Rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and 4-wheel-drive (4WD) configurations are available. All 4Runners are equipped with a 270-horsepower, 4.0-liter V-6 engine.

What's New:
  • TRD Pro Series Edition

2015 Toyota Highlander
Like several other Toyota models, the family-friendly Highlander crossover underwent considerable changes for 2014. For 2015, the Highlander has been carried over unchanged.

Buyers considering the 2015 Highlander have their choice of 4- and 6-cylinder engines, as well as a hybrid powertrain. Front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations are available, with seating for up to 8 passengers.

What's New:
  • No changes for the 2015 model year

2015 Toyota Land Cruiser
If you liked the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser, there's a very good chance you'll like the 2015 model as well. This luxurious SUV, built to tear up the trails with the best of 'em, has been carried over unchanged for 2015. Buyers have only one very well-equipped model from which to choose--multiple trim levels are not offered, nor are there any option packages. Power comes from Toyota's 5.7-liter V-8 engine, and every 2015 Land Cruiser is fitted with a full-time 4WD system.

What's New:
  • No changes for the 2015 model year

2015 Toyota RAV4
Now in its third year of production since being redesigned, the 5-passenger Toyota RAV4 continues to appeal to buyers on the hunt for efficiency coupled with a good bit of versatility. The 2015 model dials things up just a smidge by offering a new Hot Lava paint color, additional standard features for the mid-level XLE trim level, and a Blizzard Pearl Premium package consisting of Blizzard Pearl paint and special 18-in. alloy wheels. The 2015 Toyota RAV4 is also offered in LE and Limited trim levels, with power coming from a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. RAV4 buyers have their choice of FWD or AWD capability.

What's New:
  • Blizzard Pearl Premium package
  • Hot Lava paint color
  • XLE adds chrome wheels and optional multi-setting power liftgate

2015 Toyota Sequoia
Toyota's answer to such competing--and redesigned--full-size SUV models as the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon is the Tundra-based Sequoia, which has been carried over unchanged for 2015.

Available in RWD and 4WD configurations, the 2015 Toyota Sequoia seats up to 8 people, draws motivation from a 381-horsepower, 5.7-liter V-8 engine, delivers a maximum towing capacity of 7,400 lbs., and can be ordered in one of three trim levels: SR5, Limited, and Platinum.

What's New:
  • No changes for the 2015 model year

2015 Toyota Sienna
With so many recently redesigned and carryover models in Toyota's truck/SUV/crossover lineup, there's relatively little news coming out for 2015. The one notable exception is the Sienna minivan, now highlighted by updated styling and upgraded materials, additional and improved air bags, intercom system using the van's audio speakers, more LATCH points for securing child seats, and bonus creature comforts like a heated steering wheel and adjustable driver's armrest. Toyota is also quick to remind potential buyers that the Sienna is the only minivan available with optional AWD, the latest version of the Entune app-linked infotainment system, and a Blu-ray rear entertainment system with extra inputs.

Shoppers interested in the 2015 Sienna have their choice of eight trim levels, each powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The EPA estimates that a FWD Sienna can average up to 25 mpg on the highway.

What's New:
  • Updated styling
  • Intercom system
  • LED daytime running lights
  • Improved side-curtain air bags and new front-seat cushion air bag
  • Additional LATCH point for child seats
  • Available heated steering wheel
  • Upgraded interior materials
  • Driver's adjustable armrest
  • Revised gauges
  • Latest version of Toyota's smartphone-linked infotainment system
  • Rear-seat entertainment system adds SD and HDMI inputs, plus Blu-ray capability

2015 Toyota Tacoma
Toyota's midsize Tacoma pickup is perhaps the best example of "If it isn't broken, don't fix it." Granted, there have been small adjustments and modifications made over the years, but overall, the 2015 Tacoma bears a very strong resemblance to every Tacoma built since 2005 (the same can be said for its chief competitor, the Nissan Frontier). Though relatively unchanged, the Tacoma remains a hot seller, one that now boasts a new Utility package that deletes rear seats in Access cab variants, and an off-road-ready TRD Pro Series model. To make it ready for pounding down unpaved paths, Toyota has equipped the 2015 Tacoma TRD Pro Series with 16-in. TRD beadlock alloy wheels, all-terrain tires, raised front suspension, increased front- and rear-wheel travel, TRD cat-back exhaust system, and a few unique visual touches.

As has long been the case, packed under the Tacoma's hood is either a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder or 4.0-liter V-6 engine. Buyers have their choice of RWD or 4WD capability and Access or Double cab body styles. The 2-door Regular cab has been discontinued.

What's New:
  • TRD Pro Series
  • Regular cab body style discontinued
  • Utility package

2015 Toyota Tundra
Traditionalists who never quite understood how a full-size pickup truck could be equipped with anything less than a V-8 will appreciate Toyota's decision to remove the 4.0-liter V-6 from the 2015 Tundra's lineup of engines. As a result of that move, the 4.6-liter V-8 is now the standard power plant, with extra muscle coming from the available 381-horsepower 5.7-liter V-8.

Like the Tacoma, the 2015 Tundra also adds a TRD Pro model fitted with 18-in. TRD alloy wheels, all-terrain tires, black exterior accents, dual exhaust, raised front suspension, and extended wheel travel.

What's New:
  • V-6 engine no longer available
  • TRD Pro variant

2015 Toyota Venza
Rounding out the selection of Toyota trucks, crossovers, and vans is the 2015 Venza, a 5-passenger FWD or AWD crossover model now featuring a standard rearview camera, current version of Entune, and a tow package for variants equipped with the available 268-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6. A tow package comes with that engine, which, along with AWD, is now standard on the Venza Limited but no longer available on the base LE version. Standard on that trim level, as well as the mid-level XLE, is a 181-horsepower 2.7-liter 4-cylinder.

What's New:
  • Standard rearview camera
  • Latest version of Toyota's smartphone-linked infotainment system
  • Standard tow package with V-6 engine
  • LE no longer available with V-6 engine
  • Limited features standard V-6 and AWD
