New for 2015: Toyota Cars

By Jeff Youngs,

2015 Toyota Cars Overview

Perhaps no other model name is more synonymous with Toyota than the Camry, a best-selling family sedan that greets 2015 with all-new styling, a quieter and more refined interior, retuned chassis, and a broader selection of technology features. Saddled up next to the Camry is the 2015 Toyota Yaris, a subcompact that has undergone a transformation of its own, highlighted by revised styling, improved cabin materials, and an available navigation system.

Changes for the rest of Toyota's family of cars won't grab headlines, but they are noteworthy. The Prius, for example, adds a special-edition variant with a generous assortment of standard features and unique red paint, and the Corolla steps a bit upscale with the addition of Premium trim levels. Fans of the Avalon full-size sedan will need to wait a bit longer for details, as information about the 2015 model had not yet been published when this article was written.

2015 Toyota Camry
Last year's redesign of the Corolla was big news, but the launch of an overhauled Camry--recognized as a long-term leader in the midsize sedan segment--is even more impactful. Behind its all-new, arguably contemporary styling is what the company claims are higher-quality interior materials, a quieter cabin, re-engineered chassis focused on providing better handling, and an injection of technology, such as a wireless charging system for select smartphones and a lane-departure warning system. Like its predecessor, the 2015 Toyota Camry will be available in regular gas and hybrid versions. Among the available trim levels are the LE and XLE, as well as the new SE and XSE.

Redesigned for 2014, the extremely popular Toyota Corolla returns for 2015 with relatively minor updates, including the addition of a rear center armrest with cup holders and the debut of LE Premium, LE Eco Premium, and S Premium trim levels. They join the L, LE, LE Plus, LE Eco, LE Eco Plus, S, and S Plus. Serving to distinguish the Premium versions are several bonus amenities, such as a standard power moonroof, navigation, Toyota's Entune infotainment system with smartphone-linked app technology, and a proximity keyless entry system.

All 2015 Toyota Corollas are equipped with one of two variations of a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine: Eco versions are tuned to deliver 140 horsepower and 126 lb.-ft. of torque, whereas all others produce 132 horsepower and 128 lb.-ft. of torque.

2015 Toyota Prius
Offered in four varieties--Prius hatchback, Prius plug-in hatchback, compact Prius C, Prius V wagon--Toyota's well-known hybrid model continues to attract buyers with its efficiency and expanding versatility. For 2015, the plug-in variant is carried over unchanged, while the Prius hatchback gains a new Persona Series Special Edition equipped with heated turn-signal mirrors, unique 17-in. alloy wheels, leatherette upholstery, and a 6.1-in. touch-screen navigation system with smartphone-linked app technology. Available exclusively on the Persona Series is a new Absolutely Red paint color.

Under the hood of every 2015 Toyota Yaris is a 106-horsepower, 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine mated with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. According to the EPA, drivers can expect to see up to 37 mpg on the highway.
